I did as you when we were seasonal, vacation RVers. Wanted it done right, especially with the washer / dryer.

I think Linda may be trying to get tips on Cold Weather living. The one thing I think is a must is a heated water hose.

Other than that - be ready to go through propane - and possibly get an electric heater of some sort. Etc...

Our introduction (having passed the strenuous tests and now officially being #126) is simple. We are long time Alaskans (42 years) and have lived in North East Washington State the last 19 years or so. We were both the children of homesteaders, so that sums up our basic personalities.

Hi Linda!

In the world of mutants, we are neighbors. We are about 3 to 3-1/2 hrs south of Spokane. We will have to try to meet sometime. And don't worry about joining in on the talk here on the forums. Until the GC at Bryce, we had only met one other mutant who came to see us. Going to the gathering was a little intimidating since we hadn't met any of the mutants that were going to be there, but it didn't take long to know that we fit right in and we had a blast at that get-together. And better yet, afterwards, they let us remain mutants! lol

We are part timers right now and are tied to an old house that needs snow shoveled during the winter to keep the roof "over" our heads instead of "on" our heads. Taking care of my 91 yr young dad also keeps us close to home but we love to get away when we can. Lots of the mutants are heading to AZ for the winter this year so hopefully you can meet some if you go that way.

We might go down to Yuma at the end of Jan for a geocaching mega event too and then on to CA to spend some time with my son. Not sure yet, but if we do, it will be in a car. Unlike you, DH doesn't want to drive the TT in the snow.

Rick can repair about anything and is a jack of most trades, from mechanics to moving houses to truck driving. The surgeon finally told him, after repairing the second rotator cuff and bicep repairs, that she couldn’t keep fixing him. So, with his masculine heart slightly offended, he retired this year.

I maintain my CNA license, but work with animals now instead of the elderly and disabled. I am not an Obama fan and snickered at the term ‘community organizer’ but that’s really what I do anymore. I coordinate a mobile spay/neuter clinic for cats of low income residents in our county. This consists of everything from inventory, inventing/designing our brochures and paperwork, to setting up for surgery in Legion halls and community centers and then shaving and scrubbing bellies and testicles all day before spending 2 hours cleaning up and stuffing everything back in the trailer and starting all over again. We have fixed over 11,000 cats in the last ten years by doing this one just Sunday a month. So yes, they are large clinics, with between 100 and 200 cats being fixed by 5 vets and approximately 35 volunteers in one loooong day each time. I live for this. It has become my life.

So this puts a damper on our RV’ing! The fact we have 3 dogs and a cat along merely adds interest to our trips. Our Dane is deaf (genetics, not age) and his medical issues are worsening. He will get stronger pain meds at next week’s vet appointment, so I am aware we are living on borrowed time now. But for now, we are one big happy family.

The RV is an HMC (Hawkins Motor Coach) so obviously it’s older, but when things are paid for, they seem so much nicer! Rick loves that it’s a diesel pusher. I love that it has lots of inside storage space…and that it’s paid for.

We came down from Alaska in a different RV and then got a nice trailer, which wasn’t great with pets, so traded it for the HMC 2 years ago. Now that Rick retired and is about healed from the last shoulder surgery, we are getting out more for short adventures. Because our cat group takes Decembers off, we will have from mid-November till early January to travel and intend to be gone the whole stretch, our longest so far! We want to check out the snowbird situation in Arizona just because it sounds like fun, but also need to spend time in Oklahoma and Colorado with friends and relatives.

Because Rick drove truck in Alaska (including the Haul Road), he isn’t worried about winter driving. I am. I got spoiled by nice weather down here in the lower 48 real quick. I am also concerned with important stuff freezing up, like the sewer and water. Just because I lived several years without indoor plumbing in the past doesn’t mean I want to do it again. So any advice for winter RV’ing would be welcome.

Linda,
The only cold weather preparations anyone should have to January. One of these days I will have to take my own advice.

Welcome to our side of RVing.

Really, Steve? Well, if you can get here before breakfast tomorrow, you can use our washer & dryer ... But will you bring that Wright brand bacon? It's my favorite.

Linda, welcome (again)! I felt just like you at first. But the more you jump in, the more you'll start to feel a part of this family. Next time Kate and I attend a GC, we'll no doubt feel more relaxed with everyone. And we'll attend the entire event rather than just 3 days, like the first time.

You'll find that this is a great group where everyone is welcomed warmly. It really is like a family. We might not all agree on everything, but we sure as heck all care about each other!

So, welcome to the family!

Btw, I have always wanted to see Alaska. (Bucket list thing!)

Mel

Hey Linda!

Good to hear from you. We always enjoy learning more about our fellow RVMs. Your post was made correctly and the way we all do -- as a reply to Steve's message almost 2.5 years ago. The fact that this is post 45,549 is a testament to what we are -- a whacky group of mouthy misfits who come here to play and frequently meet in person for fantastic adventures.

Weird question for y'all.

I need a baseplate for my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I have a 1410-1 and need 1411-2 from towmaster but I don't want to pay $400.00 for something 20 years old. Like Wayne, I tend to throw nickles around like they be manhole covers.

Anyone know of a unit that's dirt cheap.

this is what I am looking for at present.

Dwayne, before you suggest the DIY mode remember my welding is not know to last until the power is turned off.
