Not all my coaches I owned had problems and issues. I sold some that I wished I would have hung onto because they were in great condition and well cared for. Keeping them just didn't fit my plan for RV freedom.
In no way do I want to talk you or anyone out of their dream way of enjoying the rainbow.
My situation is different than most in that I still have to have a truck for work. Keeping the coach and a truck didn't make sense due to the cost of maintenance for both. The coach cost the most to maintain and keep.
The other factor was that the coach would have been fine for two but is crowded with the introduction of another family member. Our 5th wheel and truck solved all of those problems and more.
So far the only one regretting me changing from Class A to 5th wheel is my old diesel mechanic shop, RV supply stores, eBay, Napa, my Insurance Broker and all the fueling stations.

Some coaches have more issues than others. Some brands are just built better than others. Age can be a major component in deciding costs. As things get older, they break down and/or wear out. Pre-owner maintenance is also another factor in how long things will last. Mileage comes into play as does where the coach travelled and lived.

Only you and Kate can determine when you feel you need to make a change either in selling Bow for something different or newer. My hopes are that this is the last of the WTH events and you can get on with the enjoying the lifestyle on the Rainbow!
Whatever the choice, we wish you the best, we'll support you and help anyway we can!
I think you summed things up pretty well Les. I would add in your case, you played the odds and won on several occasions. Then, like at the casinos, the odds caught up with you. All of your issues with the Beaver were potential downfalls of all 3, 4 or 5 of the coaches you flipped (lost count) and yet you kept moving them with pretty good results or return. Largely unheard of.

Personally, I'm reluctant to say that we've had little trouble at all and really nothing mechanical to mention. While DaveDeb1 is right - there are no omens, only coincidence and superstition, I knock wood on mentioning good fortune. Clearly anything can happen.

I would like to think that Mel and Kate have simply had poor service by nearly inept mechanics and shops, but that's disheartening too. I do suspect that the current issue will be remedied easily and probably at low or no cost. I also suspect this will not be the last issue to arise, because things happen. But all in all the diesel engine is a winner in the long haul. Once it's right, it should be a matter of maintenence that is, yes, more expensive than a gas engine, but worth the difference IMHO. That debate goes on and on but there is no comparison between the two.

I get the feeling Mel and Kate have had the string of events that results in panic and a fallback position that the thing to do is run away with their hair on fire. Maybe that will pass. Maybe not. And like you said, only they know what's right for them. So all we can do is lend support and encouragement.

Mel... Kate... don't panic. See this fix through. And if ya can - get Bow out of Lubbock / Amarillo - etc and see if you can't get to a shop that knows what they're doing.

I will call my friend in Lubbock today to see if he knows anyone reputable in the area and let you know what he says.

Keep the faith mutants!

Hey Mel,

Guess what! In 2008 I purchased a 2005 F350 King Ranch, 1 ton, Crew Cab, Long Bed with the 6.0 diesel engine. Everyone said that the 6.0 was a problematic engine. I towed a Montana RL3400 fifth wheel. Went West, went East, and went lots of points in between. In all the miles I only had one problem with it and that was a computer module for the injectors. Cost $2000 for the replacement. Cost another $245 to have Ford flash the chip as they would not let anyone have their proprietary software.

So, don't look at the 5.9 engine you have as anything bad. You have not had engine problems, you have had accessory problems - and all repairable. Consider how much you have spent out-of-pocket on repairs and the consider what the mortgage or outlay on something newer will be. Then consider that the newer one may have some repair issues also.

The most troubling part is the frustration that we all go through. After all, consider Citrus. Presently in the shop for the same problems - jacks. Service manager said they would give it another try but the jacks ate their lunches last time it was in the shop. If he cannot fix it, he will give us an estimate on total replacement. Hmmm! Sounds like about $4000-6000 or there about. One of these years she'll be trouble free. Might decide to sell it to you then. hee hee!

Just talked to Nola and apparently the Poobah felt that his birthday was a move day. They're on the road and about an hour out from the next place.

I have definitely picked up a sinus infection and guess I'm going to need to see someone. Drat. Drat. Drat...

Our neighbors here, the gold prospectors from Alberta moved on this morning after exchanging cards and saying farewell. Always sad to see new friends roll on but so great to meet new and wonderful folks almost daily. Has to be one of the best parts of full time living on the rainbow. The people you meet! The things you see!!

There they go...

Hello One and all Mutants !!!

Marcia came across this wonderful ponder, and she was asked to pass it to y'all. But since I'm the chief ponderer in our rolling condo, the duties fell to me, which, I am happily passing on to y'all ........

Cheers !!!
