I love to read (when time permits.)
Got any good reads to share?

Here's some recent ones I really enjoyed:

Three Cups of Tea (by: Greg Mortenson) - do not miss this fascinating book, mountain climber's adventure building schools at the base of K2

Team of Rivals (Doris Goodwin) - one of the recent Presidential candidates recommended this book, and the Abe Lincoln strategy is indeed fascinating

Slash - for you rock-n-roll'rs, a rowdy autobiographical look at the life of the lead guitarist for Guns-n-Roses, reckless and often horrifying

Clapton - Eric's autobiography that came out last year, WOW

Franz Kafka - assorted works, of course his 'The Trial' is exceptional

got any others?

I came very close to buying my wife a Christmas present of that new Amazon.com electronic book reader to use on extended trips in the coach. We both read a lot and it seemed like a good idea, but I was a little concerned about actually reading from it. Anybody have one?

I am presently about 1/3 into a book by Mike Huckabee titled - Do The Right Thing. It is an excellent book IMHO.

The two books I have just finished are:

This I Believe

Not Quite What I Was Expecting

Both are books you can read 5 minutes at a time and in whatever order you want to...

One of my xmas presents was a gift card to Borders. I'm savoring what I can get. I have changed my mind 3 times so far.

I would also love a Borders card.
But also there is just a treasure trove in old used book stores. There was one near me in Alpine that had a wealth of old books. I got one from them last year that was copyright 1946 titled Burma Surgeon Returns, an account of a surgeon operating a jungle hospital while under fire from the Japanese. The book is full of photos. It cost me $2. It is a real read.

wthomas1, I have heard good things about that Mitch Rapp series. Can i ask though, why you skipped books 1 and 2?

Lindsay, i looked at one of theose electronic readers, it was a Sony I think, and the print it displays looks just like a book's print NOT like a computer screen. Thats a good thing. BUT, i just don't know if they would have the sorts of book i like to read already scanned. I know they have thousands, but like i said earlier old used book stores are one of my haunts.

I did not know I was skipping books 1 and 2. I found the 4 I bought at Costco and discovered the sequence after I started reading. I am looking for books 1 and 2 now.

Hah. I was a bookseller for 20 years until Dec 2007. Every month I post a list of books I've read the previous month with a little comment. You can visit my blog to see the list (just posted the Dec. books). Mostly sf and mysteries and a few other things.

Have you tried Greg Iles? Suspense thrillers.
Michael McGarrity? murder mysteries set in New Mexico (series).

I once found an interesting book on the dollar table at Barnes & Noble about the golden age of pool players (1950s, 60s 70s), all about Willie Mosconi, Jersey Red, Minnesota Fats, et al.

Hey MonacoMama,
I hope you enjoyed the visit to the blog. It's true it's true, I am a voracious reader -- why do think I became a bookseller? To feed my habit. And now reading material is becoming one of my biggest expenses. Could be worse, I suppose; could be booze or drugs, but they're not nearly as satisfying in the long run.

Wayne,
If you like the Mitch Rapp series you might want to take a look at the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. These include Killing Floor, Die Trying, Tripwire, Running Blind, Echo Burning, Without Fail, The Enemy, One Shot & The Hard Way. You might also enjoy Last Man Standing, The Simple Truth, Total Control, & Saving Faith by David Baldacci. He is also the author of Absolute Power which was made in to a movie starring Clint Eastwood & Gene Hackman.

Mama,
Have you read the Brother Odd series by Koontz? Are you also a Stephen King fan? Ludlum's heirs have a lot of my money also. You might enjoy By Order of the President by W.E.B. Griffin.

Other authors I enjoy include Dan Brown ( Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons, Deception Point and The Da Vinci Code) , Dale Brown (The Flight of Old Dog, Day of the Cheetah, Air Battle Force, Plan of Attack and others) & Clive Cussler (The Dirk Pitt series), W.E.B. Griffin's "Brotherhood of War" & "The Corp" series. I have also enjoy many in the older but still good Florida based "Travis McGee" series by John D. MacDonald.

MoveableBookLady
Are you familiar with Farley's Old and Rare Books here in Pensacola?

I have read a couple of the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. David Baldacci is an author I enjoy. I also read John Sanford, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwall, Sue Grafton and other in the same genre's. A friend just gave me 12 of the Stephen Hunter novels that I am going to start soon.
