Regulated prescriptions

my wife and I are going full time but we are having issues. she is in constant pain and requires 3 prescriptions that are highly regulated by nys. they cannot be refilled before the 30 are up and add to that shipping time she goes without for several days. any one else encountered this?

This has become a big problem for full-timers with the new Class regulations. There has been some talk over on the full-timer's forum that you might want to check out.

Also talk to your doctor to see what he can recommend. Good luck!

Not going to get around the FED requirement/restrictions.

Take with the Doc for exact specifics.

If they're schedule II medications, you need a new prescription for each refill as they can't be refilled otherwise. Schedule III and IV can be refilled five times in six months; Schedule V as authorized by the prescriber.

The pharmacist can make a judgement call on filler a prescription a couple of days early based on the patient and the circumstances involved, but probably can't be depended upon.

The most certain way to get refills on the date you need them is to have your doctor write prescriptions for each refill and take that to your local pharmacy. There's no shipping time and you're only restricted by the date of the prescription.

each refill, call her doctor.. have them contact the drug store you are near...

even call near drug store before calling doctor.. for correct number the doctor office to call.

I have not had to deal with Heavy restricted meds for my wife.. but have done many by long distance to doctors and various local drug stores.. (traveling)
never had a big problem.. everyone was flexible and helpful.

and if possible.. talk to doctor and there staff before the start of your trip

Instead of a 30 day supply, how about a 90 day supply. Class II different mater, prescription
has to be filled with in 14 days of being written, unless you have multiple and turn them in to [pharmacy and hope they will fill them.

Can you check with national chains where all are tied together via computer?

CVS are NOT so avoid them but sams and maybe walgreens.

Ask to speak with the pharmacy manager as you may not be the first case so they may already have an action plan.

With everything now computerized and if the control you state is limited to NY then it may not be an issue while out of state.

Check with your pharmacist first then follow up with a chain to determine how to address out of state.

Plan your trip based on your information and get it in writing both hard and scanned from the get go.

Phone ahead and if issue send copy of plan from "host pharmacy".

The doctor will need to be involved to provide the prescriptions but they usually only are aware of writing rules in their county, the pharmacy folks are aware of dispensing regulations and given lots of folks travel there should already be a plan.

Depending on what the drug is...the doctor may not be authorized to write a prescription across state lines so even if the pharmacy can transfer prescriptions, they might not be able to transfer those prescriptions.

We were lucky enough to have an understanding Doctor and pharmacy in a town where we spent a couple of months in the spring and then in the fall each year. He wrote a number of post dated prescriptions (six actually) that we gave to the pharmacy and each month they filled and mailed the drug to us.

Yes they required a written prescription. We had to pick it up at the doctors office and hand deliver it to the pharmacy. Had to have a new prescription each month. Could not be filled out of state - maybe not even out of the local area but not sure about that.

I am sure the doctor and pharmacy would not been willing to help with this if they had not known us and our family for years.

Even if you're dealing with a national pharmacy they can't transfer prescriptions for narcotics. You must have a written prescription.

I think the only way is to have to doctor mail a new prescription to you!

My wife's sister goes to my wife's Doctor and gets the script. She mails it to my wife.
