Required Auto Insurance

Seems Texas is about to get really tough on uninsured drivers. They have new software in the LEO's cars and can spot check whether or not the car is insured. They are also tying several state database together to crosscheck and will start contacting folks without insurance....
Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? Do other states require insurance?

Besides protecting me , I'd think one would want to protect their own assets.

I think our State, Texas, has great laws concerning insurance. Before you can get a vehicle registered, you have to show proof of liability insurance. Also, before you can get a State Inspection (which is required ) you must also show proof of liability insurance. I think it protects us all.

Here in the great state of Taxachussetts we are required to have a minimum amount of insurance. But that minimum is really a joke. I make sure I am covered by the compulsory and then buy the comprehensive and extra liability. You can't be too careful in this litigation economy
