We have a 04 Country coach and it is totally standard/original. I want to make it ours and I don't "love" the interior color scheme. If we DIY and change it up will it make the resale value go down?

Probably won't make a difference either way on that age of rig. Most people looking for a used rig don't have the original brochure to go by. Condition and quality of the work will determine the value.

Do quality work and possibly keep it so that it can be reverted back to original, if possible, depending on your mods. On the flip side, if you're going to keep the coach for a while and will enjoy it significantly more, who cares if you take a little hit for the mods that made it better for you? JMO

Just think about what you want to do and ask the question, would other people like it if they hadn't seen the original coach. If you plan to keep it a while do what you want to make you happy.

In reality your coach, like mine, has depreciated to a point where it probably doesn't matter. If you make it look batter you may end up getting more money in the long run.

Depreciation will eat up so much of the value over time, any modifications you do (as long as they are not totally outrageous and are of high quality) won't make that much difference in resale value. Go ahead and make it your own.

Make it your home for the time you own it. Let the resale value when you ultimately sell it take care of itself!

As others have said... if you do nice work and it looks like it was professionally done, it will have little impact on resale.

On the other hand, if it looks like someone got carried away with their Home Depot charge card, and has that "I did it myself" look... It will make the unit harder to sell when the time comes.

... and just to expand on my previous thought.

Years ago my wife and I looked at a used coach where someone decided to stucco the interior walls, and paint.

In general they did a pretty good job, but it looked so out of place, I'd never buy it.

So if you keep your mods fairly modest, reasonable, and in good taste (I know... very subjective), the mods should have little impact on resale.

Speaking of resale, it works both ways. While a well executed mod should not hurt resale, I wouldn't expect it to help either. Typically upgrades just make your unit easier to sell. They don't necessarily make it worth more.

I had to laugh at myself. My first reaction was to ask you to post pictures- of your house!

Yes, make it your own, but when it comes time to sell, updated and bland is better. That's the what all those house sale "staging" consultants on "reality" TV seem to say. So, if your tastes tend to the "imaginative" side, just make sure you can tone that down for the sale. I hope that's a long time away!

I agree with most of the views state above, but they are purely subjective, as is mine. If you know someone in the RV business they may offer a differing view. You never know, you may end up trading it in at a dealership.
