Retirement

What is the single most important thing you enjoy after you retired?

Mine is having the time to make a really great cup of coffee every morning!

When I was working, never seemed like I had the time to do it!
Now, I take the time to grind the fresh beans, put them into the French Press, and make the best cup possible!

Rail!

No agenda! The freedom to do what we want when we want to.

Since I don't have to report in each day, I still have an obligation to make the most of each and every day, in some positive manner. So I look for positive things to do around my church, my community, or even when traveling. It can be a challenge, but it sure is fun. And I get to meet a lot of people from all over.

Hard to pick one, so here is two.

One simple act upon retirement that has multiplied for me was ditching the smartphone and all those apps for a dumb phone.
Disconnecting from technology has brought about a peace, serenity and calm in my life that is just wonderful. I get a thrill when I realize I do not know the day of the week.

Reading. I always enjoyed my Kindle, but now it is constantly my companion, and takes me on adventures only limited by my imagination.

One of the better things is sleeping 'late' I now get up at 6-6:30 instead of 5:30. I can also spend a couple hours on the 'puter catching up on the news and my hobby habits. Only wear a watch (if remembered) when I leave the house in a vehicle. I also have almost caught up on my reading on one of my 3 Kindles, one of which is always nearby. Then there us the RV - we can go during the week in the summer now, avoiding crowded CGs. We also haven't graduated nor will. to anything more then a flip phone - something I was able to avoid with my job as they were just becoming a job necessity when I bailed out of my stressful job.

I don't know about retirement, I never get a day off anymore, nor do I get holidays off.

My stress does not go up every time the phone rings. It only rings a few times each months now.

It took me some time to quit wearing a watch. I do not carry my phone on my hip like many folks. Only if I go to the store or out fishing for safety.

The one thing I enjoy the most, now that I'm retired is I can get out in my shop and build or repair anything whenever I want. And stay at it as long or short as I want. No more 4:45 am alarm clocks and mad dashes through rush hour traffic to get to the Office so I can work for a Boss who never should have been made a Supervisor in the first place, then spend all day getting called off my preventative maintenance jobs to put out somebody else else fire screw ups. All while dealing with idiot drivers on the road who want to run me over.
My commute to my shop is 75 feet now. And I can jump on one of the motorcycles that are parked between my office door and the shop door, and go for a ride whenever I don't feel like working.
Been a tough 8.5 years, but hey, somebody has to do it and I'm the perfect guy to do it.
