RFI reset....

Had just bought a 2017 38’ Newmar. Had sent to shop to have final punch list completed and have the high end satellite dish installed. When we brought it back home the 110v outlets which is on a GFI in the bath will not reset. Checked breaker in panel with no luck.....Any other thoughts out there????

2 things come to mind. There's a direct short circuit or, the GFI has gone soft. I'd start by installing an new GFI although there are other ways to check for a short circuit. If the new GFI trips then you have a short if it doesn't trip then you had a bad GFI. If it did trip then find out what the shop did and have them check their work and keep the new GFI as a spare.

The GFI will not reset if there is no power to it, if there is another outlet daisy chained to it with a fault, or the GFI is bad. Since you reset the breaker my bet is that the outlet failed.

When my coach was a few months old, the GFI outlet for the induction cook top failed. I didn't want to wait until I got to the dealer so I went to Home Depot. They had the identical outlet, so I bought and replaced it.

Be sure to stop over to the Newmar Forum on IRV2.

If all else fails, the installers may have run a screw into a wire, causing a short. Been there, done that!

Some good points so, Take apart the breaker box and use a volt meter to test the voltage to the circuit breaker. Set the volt meter to 200 AC and touch the red to the "HOT" bus bar and the black probe to the common bus bar. If you have voltage to the circuit breaker then it's either a bad GFI or bad circuit breaker or a direct short circuit. . If you have a continuity tester on your voltage meter turn off the 120 volt power to the coach, turn off the inverter and test to make sure there's no power to the electrical breaker box. Remove the GFI then make sure that any appliance that plugged into that circuit is unplugged. Turn off the circuit breaker and Touch one probe from the continuity tester to one of the feed wires on the back of the plug and the other probe to the other wire If you get a reading or sound via the meter or if you get a reading of 1 or more then you probably have wires touching within that circuit.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Why don't you let the dealer fix it under warranty?

Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
