Ring Video Doorbell

I saw this advertised on TV and pulled up their website. https://ring.com/

It seems like it would be a good addition to your Home Security System. Has anyone purchased this for their home? Would like to hear some feedback.

A friend of ours has a similar device on their house, I'm not sure of the brand, but it looks a lot like that.
They're happy with it. The only down side is that you have to open the app on your phone to see who's outside - after, of course, going to get your phone from wherever it is you put it down last.

We've had one for about 6 mths now. It works as advertised. We have it installed at our second home to keep track of activity and answer the doorbell. It alerts us if anyone comes into the yard, (lets us spy on the yardman). It is fun to answer the door and say we are bathing the dog, so please go away. Only problem we have had was our router shutting off. It was rebooted when the power came back on after a power outage. Not a problem with the Ring though. I would definitely recommend it.

Glenn

Just read the previous post and that is true, but between DW and I there is usually an IPhone nearby.

I read where you have to pay $3 a month for the cloud and it doesn't work unless you have the cloud. Is that true?

Yes, we paid $30 for 1 year on the cloud, or you can pay $3 per month.

Nope, the it stores the recorded video in the cloud. You can watch what the door bell see real time. I like having access to past recordings when I am traveling.

My GUESS would be that you only need the cloud for remote monitoring (from somewhere other than where it's installed). You'd want to check to make sure, but I'd like to think that if the Ring and the phone are on the same wifi connection that they will talk to each other, without going to the cloud first.

Edit: I see MrT types faster than I do.

Installed one at our home and love it. You get 30 days free trial for the cloud. If you don't want to have images saved then don't take it. But we are paying the $30 a year. We have been on the road and someone rings and DW answers it on her phone. It was our mailman and he thought it was neat. And we asked him to bring it back in 2 days and he did.

Can this work as an outdoor camera as well? I ask because 1)I don't ever get knocks on the door, and 2) sometimes I hear something and wish I could see it via camera feed especially if at night as could be a coyote.

They have a separate device now that is just a camera without the doorbell, however it only records with motion....you can't just turn on the camera when you hear a noise for example.

Have RING doorbell to let us know when kids get home from school, it works great. They also have a stick up cam as mentioned and live viewing is coming to it like the doorbell has presently. I would highly recommend it. Cloud storage is not required however like others have said it is inexpensive at only $30 a year or $3 a month.

How difficult was the installation? Is it all wireless?
