Robotic Prostate Removal --- Do You Regret Doing?
Will stop bothering you soon. I'm narrowing in on prostate problem and, if dr will agree, comes down to TURP or Robotic Removal for me. Urologist appt is Dec 19.
Robotic has some appeal as it seems 100% sure to relieve my problems emptying my bladder at night. The sex thing left the barn some yrs ago, so not worried about that. Main worries are wearing a diaper the rest of my life, or some horrible mishap during the operation. Actual experience out there?

Old, Like I posted, my experience is with green light laser, Marginally invasive, recovery not too bad, marginally successful outcome. Ok for now. Good luck!

I had the DaVinci Robotic procedure
I do have to empty the bladder , about every 3 hours, at night, and, more often in the day
The procedure recovery , for me, was quick. I'm 69, had the procedure at 60.....
Wish I could be more positive.
I do not have a feel for where I would have been if I had had radiation instead. Prostate treatment is such a hit & miss scenario
Best of luck

Not wanting to throw a wrench in the works as I know you have a lot of decisions to make, but have you looked into proton beam therapy? I have an uncle who just finished and had few side affects and for him it was far better than surgery.

I had a radical in Sept. 2012. I had rapid growing cancer cells in 12 out of 12 biopsy results.
After the removal of my prostate, I had the usual problems with incontinence, but after around a month and a 1/2 after the catheter was removed (10 days post op.), I got it under control using the "Kegel" exercises. I have not needed the dreaded soaker pads since then except now and then when I have a few too many beers! If I'm going to party, I'll use a pad.
I will get the odd drop or 2 now and then, but it's no big deal.
My PSA count has remained at 0 for every check-up (annually) so far. Fingers crossed I'm cancer free!
As far as a "Tupper", my dad had that and lots of problems with scarring and restriction of his urethra. He also had radiation, so that may have contributed to the scarring as well.
Good Luck, and Happy Glamping.

I'm 70 but was diagnosed with prostate cancer 2 months after my father died from it when I was 59. I chose to have radioactive seeds (19) implanted in scrotum instead of chemo or radiation. No pain and no side effects. Couldn't sit on a pregnant womans lap or let children sit on mine for 6 months. Had to carry special id card for TSA airport screening. 11 years ago and no sign of cancer with PSA always as close to zero as possible. Something to think about.

For those who don't want to wear the pad or adult diaper, there are clamps that you can use to stop the leak. (If kegels don't work for you)

Prostate Cancer is not a death sentence!
I had the robotic prostate surgery done in Bangkok, Thailand about a year after I retired and got married and moved over here! (2013) Had a catheter and a drain for about a week after the surgery, then both removed! Wore a pad for about a month after surgery, and I did the "Kegal" exercises and got the bladder trained so no more pad needed! Three months after the surgery, went back for 3D radiation treatments, 5 times a week for 6 weeks. No ill affects from the radiation at all, very spot on, no hair loss, even right where they were aiming at! 0.0 PSA levels for the next 3 years, then it started to rise again! When it reached 2.5 they decided, along with me, reluctantly, to start the "hormone treatment", took pills for a month, PSA back down to (.176) then a shot in the a$$ every 3 months! It has brought the PSA levels back down to 0.0, (after 1 month) so, I think it will be a shot every 6 months, or every year, in stead of every 3 months! As long as it keeps working, I will be happy! I am also living with Lymphoma, but it is not growing or causing any problems, so a watch and wait type thing!
The robotic surgery is not invasive at all, 6 little cuts on my belly, one for the drain, and it healed up very quickly! I was up on my feet the next day walking the halls with the bag in tow! Out of the hospital in a week!
I had full sexual function after recovery, but dry!
I was 60 when I had the surgery! 64 now!
If you have any questions, fell free to PM me! Rail!

OP; don't want to garner sympathy under a false flag here; my PSA runs only 0.3. The only problem I have (hopefully) is constant waking at night; unable to get a nights rest. My sympathies to all of you w/ actual cancer, wishing you the best.

Robotic Radical prostatectomy in April 2007 (at age 58) due to cancer. Cancer was beyond the prostate itself so the surgeon had to take about 40% of the nerves on one side of the prostate. Did Kegels during the time the catheter was in - 2 weeks. Some sporadic leaking for the first month, but continent by week 6 after surgery. Generally sleep through the night without a need to get up unless I've had a lot of fluids the hour before going to bed. 10 years later, PSA still 0.0 and no lingering continence issue. Do have the sphincter "slip" every couple months or so, but it's almost instantaneous and doesn't cause any leakage. The "slip" is the feeling of the sphincter relaxing for a millisecond.
I'd recommend talking with your surgeon about his or her success with the various approaches. Also, your family doctor probably has a lot of patients who have dealt with prostate issues and can tell you what they hear from their patients about the success of various procedures and surgeons.
Just PM if you want more info on my experience.
