RV accident
Fortunately, the RV owners were uninjured. Tragically, there was a fatality.
The driver of a panel truck involved an an October crash near Smyrna, DE. has been charged.
Goldwire Jackson, 63, of Wilmington, faces one charge of operation of a vehicle causing death of another person in the Oct. 8 incident that left his passenger dead after police say he hit a truck and attached camper parked on the side of Del. 1.
Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Gary Fournier says Jackson was operating a 2004 Hino panel truck heading southbound when, for an unknown reason, his truck drifted onto the right shoulder and struck the camper, killing Michael G. Stigler, 37, of New Castle.
Anthony J. Zeigler, 74, of Fleetwood Pa., was sitting in the driver’s side of his 2010 Ford F250 while Kyong S. Zeigler, 71, also of Fleetwood, Pa., was entering the passenger side when the crash occured. Neither were injured.
Jackson turned himself in Tuesday. He was released on $1,000 unsurecured bail.

Wow, what a mess! It is dangerous to be stopped on the side of the road. I second of inattention of some driver and bang.

I realize that this particular event happened to a stationary trailer, but:
Whenever I see a pic of a mangled fifth wheel it's a fresh shock to see how flimsy such structures really are. It makes me wish I could show the pic to everyone that thinks that carrying passengers in such an unprotective area is a good idea.

a "hino" is what toyota calls it mid size commercial trucks

I recall years ago a drunk driver (Female) who was in the post flunking the breath test.. She tried to claim the trooper who arrested her beat her up.. (She had a steering wheel shaped bruise on her forehead) we pointed out her injury was from the wheel when she crashed into the car she hit.
"Well it's all his fault, he stopped suddenly in the road in front of me"
The car, had been tagged as abandoned, ON THE SHOULDER 3 hours before she hit it.
Story 2: Troopers investigation an accident (Bad road type) looking at traffic sliding (and I do mean sliding) past one says to the other: "Do you think we are far enough off the road?" reply "I don't know they are sliding around pretty good out there".
Driver decides to pull off farther, IN fact so far that had it been April (Showers) instead of Feburary (Ice) he'd have been stuck in the mud .
Radio, We'll need another tow truck and a SGT, We just got rear ended.
(If you wonder how true that is.. I was known as "Radio" back then).

I agree that I would not like to be in anything that looked like this, But I remember when we were in high school we studied the the force of a car hitting a light pole at sixty miles an hour. It was a force of over a million pounds. You could not make a camper that was able to stand up to a force this strong. Best advice is do not park beside the road if at all possible. ( I will be the first to admit that I have had the "call of nature" and have done so myself.)

I know what you mean about anything looking pretty bad when hit etc....I was really thinking of the way trailers/fivers disintegrate during a moving incident, not to mention that all the furniture, fixtures, etc. become airborne deadly missiles!

 Darn shame for the Family of both involved, Im sure the driver of the truck has to be dealing with emotional stress.
Thats one of the things we talk about from time to time at the truck stops, is how it would be for one of us "profesional drivers" to kill someone in a accident regaurdless of fought. Some say they would have to stop driving and do something else

yes ,when i read the article it said the rv was hit from behind by "hino" and having no idea what that was i assumed others might have the same question
but i do understand your question and sometimes i out in left field during a boxing match
