Saying the wrong words
Does this happen to everyone? For example ... I will want to say "we have to get the dehumidifier". It comes out as "We have to get the de-hydrator". ???
ONCE 20 YEARS ago a British friend of mine referred to a paper cutter as a guillotine ... and it stuck. Something in my brain flipped and every time I want to say 'paper cutter' I say guillotine.
Other every day words just desert me also. Can't remember any more examples.
I HOPE this happens to everyone else!

With me it has been a package deal... accompanied by worsening eyesight, aches and pains of unknown origin, and being in bed by 9pm.

Happens to me all the time. Used to happen to my dad too. I think it runs in families. Another thing that happens to both me and my dad was that we will swap the words around in a sentence and then it comes out wrong. For example my dad once told me to go "Feed the oats some pigs". Instead of go "Feed the pigs some oats". lol

Things to remember.
 I don't know how old you are,  but I am 83 and their is an alfull lot of things I cant pronounce right and even more that I cant even remember. 
Take life as it comes. 
Just a thought

It has been brought to my attention this 'could'/probably is menopause related. Oh the joy. And yes, the eyesight is NOT what it used to be.
I really would like my brain back, though. : ? )

I have a few words that I always joke occupy the same space in my mind. It's the weirdest thing! Oatmeal & meatloaf (go figure) and straw and whistle. Really. I'm a teacher and my kids love to try to trick me into saying the wrong word. Oh, and forget about referring correctly to that button in the car that warms one's butt as a SEAT heater. Always comes out HEAT seater.

My DW has been switching words since I've know her; Age had nothing to do with it.
But it makes for some interesting conversations while traveling.

Called semantic paraphasia. That is, substituting the word you intend for one that has a similar meaning. The word you're substituting is still within the context of the word you mean to say.

For me, it does seem to be a post menopausal and age thing. I used to be excellent with remembering names. I now have to really concentrate sometimes to pull someone's name out of my brain's recesses. I'll eventually remember it, but it might be 5 hours later!! The same with spelling. I was the spelling bee champ for my school. I've always been a good speller. I find myself having to check the spelling for some words. It's aggravating.
