Scam Via Private Message

Well, here's a new twist to the old phishing scam. Today I got a PM from a Captain something or other who offered me a "busniness opportunity" via a private message on this site. This is the first time I've ever gotten one of these on a forum site as a PM. I guess the crooks and scumbags will go to any extent to rip people off.

Did you report this PM to the moderators? I'm sure they will want to know about it.

It was weird to get one of those messages on a PM. It said project and then it was the usual bs from someone looking for personal info. I hope there is noone out there naive enough to give out any personal info.

He sent me a cashiers check for $100,000 and I sent him a check for $10,000 so I'm up 90K.

I don't think anyone fell for it, but it is just one of many odd ball attempts at fraud that are out there. I also got one that same day that said it was from Stub Hub and it was in regards to my tickets for a San Diego Padres game. Now the odds of me going to a Padres game from Buffalo, NY, are pretty slender. There was nothing in the e-mail that identified any credit card that it may have been charged to, but there was a "Click Here" link to cancel the charge. That's where they get the unsuspecting.

It seems like everytime I get an e-mail I have to remember the old line from the Hill Street Blues TV show, "Be careful out there!" Good advice in today's environment.

I only had to send $200 for $350,000. You really got scammed. I'm expecting it any day now.
