Where I live if the screaming sounds like a woman, it is my wife and I've done something she didn't approve of. LOL

Sorry Taz, couldn't resist.

Well, I'm still at a loss... We've been here about 7 years now and never heard anything like it.... I've been listening to animal sounds,,, (on line) and just can not find it. Thanks everybody for your input. I've spent some time in the woods,, Boy Scout and other stuff,, but this is a new one. Our Danes stay inside a fenced yard, but it's 2 acres... And Dogpatch, DW doesn't scream, she just gets a big stick....

Sounds like it's keeping us all awake !!!!

Why I keep something running in the bedroom all the time to drown out the outside noises...

but then my dog will hear it and light off in the middle of the night and scare the bejeebers out of us anyway

Maybe it's just a Chupacabra?

The Screech owl has a low pitched, wavering, whistling call. It would never be described as a scream.

I live on 4-1/2 acres of woods and we always have a fox family living in the yard. They are absolutely nothing to worry about. You will rarely see them.

This "scream" sound was not long and drawn out,,, but shorter,,, and it kept it up for quite a time. I'll be home tonight, if we hear it again I'll try to get a recording for ya with the camera. (video )

I vote for mountain lion. We lived near Springfield Mo and had something near the house one night. "screaming like a banchee" came to my mind. My dog would not bark at it. My wife called the Mo dept of conservation and thats also what they thought.

I actually thought about that... Some people say they are not in Arkansas, but several years ago a buddy and I were just out cruising the back dirt roads a few miles from here, and stopped to talk to an old guy who lived out there. He told us of seeing and hearing them. A true country back woods type of guy. Also a friend of mine who hunts on his dad's property in Oklahoma, has seen one there, along with tracks... But I listened to sounds (again on line) and it just doesn't match.
I guess the closest thing so far is a fox,,, but why we haven't heard or seen them before now is beyond me.
