Screams at night ??

We just heard some "screams" at night here. Not people like, but animal like. Our Danes went nuts... We thought we saw a fox here a couple days ago, but were not sure.. I searched on line, and it sounds like a fox... Any other idea's ?? We live in a wooded neighborhood so to speak, but have never had a fox around. (that we know of) . There are coyotes around,,, you can hear them at night, but have never seen one.. IF it is a fox, it would avoid big dogs wouldn't it ??? I don't like killing animals,,, at all,,,, BUT... Should we be concerned ??

Many weird sounds in the woods at night--scariest is bobcats(camping alone at 14 years old taught me that),look up sounds and see which is closest--foxes not a threat to large dogs--if you can see the eyes at night--they "dance" back and forth, coyotes are easy to distinguish,could be dangerous for smaller dogs--kill em if any threat at all-I would make sure rabies vaccinations are up to date for your dogs, dont turn them loose--jmho---Vince--interesting thread

Where I live if it sounds like a kid screaming it is a bobcat if it sound like a woman it is a mountain lion. They say we don't have mountain lions where I live but I and two of my neighbors have seen one more than once. The sound alone will scare the heck out of you.

Rabbits make a blood curdling sound when they are being killed by a predator. Hey, its nature and we all should be glad we're out there to hear it.

I wouldn't be concerned at all about the Danes around either Fox or coyotes. I just can't see either... even in packs... being so bold as to take on an animal that size.

We live on a golf course in Arizona with three small dogs and have to watch very carefully because the place is full of coyotes who love to make a meal of 15 lb dogs.

Foxes wouldnt take on a dog.. Coyotes, it depends but very rare.

I just had to check out a thread called "Screams At Night" because my mind went off in interesting directions.

Anyway, I always keep my dogs close. After dark they are on short chain tied near me or in the pickup/camper. I've heard many weird noises out camping. Sometimes I get a little brave and wander off that way using a flashlight. But, I usually chicken out not farm from the fire and come running back. Of course I live in SW MN and we have very few dangerous animals. (Except for humans of course) We do get the occasional mountain lion though.

If it was "yowly", I'm thinkin' bobcat, but if it was more "bloodcurdling- screamy", I agree with earlier posters that said rabbit getting killed.

I had no idea rabbits even MADE a sound until I heard one getting killed in the woods one night. Most spine-shivering sound I ever heard.

We camp at a place, Casa de Fruita in California, that has them running wild.
