Self Driving Motorhomes

Tesla cars will start self-driving on freeways this summer. Google could have done the same thing a few years back. They will release the technology to high end vehicles first but by 2012 most vehicles will be autonomous driving from parking lot to parking lot. So how long do you think it will be until it's offered in motor homes? Would you feel comfortable letting the rig drive itself? You could drive into an RV resort, it could find a space, self park, level and wake you up to let you know you've arrived.

The technology is close if not there. OTOH the legal and infrastructure issues are not. At some point I expect it will be illegal to drive manually in a populated area. It sure would be nice to be able to snooze or do other things while the vehicle is traveling but I would assume it will still be wise to be strapped in.

If the MH is indeed on auto pilot does this mean the driver can go to the kitchen and make a martini??

Saw a video recently about an OTR truck that was self driving. Driver merged into traffic touched a button and the drivers seat moved back from the steering wheel and the driver picked up a tablet.

I think some high end motorhomes can be had with the Vorad radar cruise control with collision avoidance right? Really this should be standard on all, so obvious, so many cars already have it now along with lane keeping assist.

Self driving is the future, just a matter of when not if at this point. It will really change trucking and RVing, can't wait.

Just recalled that Spartan and Freightline have added passive steering to the tag axles. Passive tags, then active tags, how much longer before active steering at the front?

I think the first places to get it will be the super slabs followed by the high density population areas. I think that because I expect it will take some kind of change to the roads and control districts like Air Traffic Control. That will leave a lot of blue highways for those of us not in a hurry.
