Unhappy selling my diesel pusher

I spent six months advertising my RV for sale in Arizona, no luck, but as soon as I moved back aboard I have two interested parties. and here is the boggle! My rv is registered in Florida, I am currently in Washington state, and one buyer is flying in from Texas in two days. I want to do a bill of sale that protects me, any ideas? also the buyer wants to use my plate to get home. any problems with that plan? I recently talked with an owner of an RV park and was told the latest deal by druggies is to use RV's for Meth production. damn scary world we live in........

I'm sorry but I would not be willing to let him use my license plate, once you sell it to him the plate would be invalid unless your state keeps the same plate on a vehicle regardless of ownership.

Hi xplorer33,
Who/where is the title? No to the purchaser using your tag. There is a process to purchase.
1. Sales contract. You can get boilerplate sales contracts on the web.
2. Notarized sales contract signatures.
3. If you own the coach and have the title,
3a. Get a bank check from the purchaser.
3b. deposit the check
4. Sign over the title to the purchaser.
5. The purchaser needs to go to DMV with the sales contract and title and get a temporary/transport tag. They will need proof of insurance to do this. As a courtesy, you could accompany the purchaser to DMV. If there are any questions, you would be there to move the process along.
6. With temporary tag in hand, shake hands and wish him many happy miles.

If there is a loan on the coach, the lender must be paid before they will release the title to you. This can be handled by a closing agent (like the ones that handle property sales).

I agree^^, on another note you don't want your insurance on an unknown driver. Most states will issue temp plates, leaving him to purchase his own insurance. JMO

check with the dmv in fla.
ims the plates stay with the vehicle.
ims, the fla. dmv has a form that you and the new buyer sign that absolves you of liability. it is probably available on the internet. it would be a good idea to get that form notarized. send the form to fla. registered or at least return receipt requested.
a notarized bill of sale would be good to have too.
to be sure, it would be wise to consult an attorney. it should be possible to set up a escrow account to protect you and the buyer.
i would not accept anything except cash or a cashiers check for payment, be leery of counterfeit cash. if you accept a cashiers check i would not sign the title over until the check clears your bank. i would not deliver the vehicle until the check clears your bank. that could take 3-4 days or more.

Even cashiers checks can be forged or they can take the money back after the check was written. They are no longer "good as gold". Bank transfer from theirs to mine with verification of deposit and immediate transfer to another account the other bank can't touch.

Then if he wont do it your way tell him "No Thanks"
I never sell any big ticket item like a vehicle without the buyer signing a hold harmless clause, which states you are selling as is with no expressed nor implied warranty. then you both sign.
I would never allow your license plate to be used by anyone.

Personal sales of big ticket items is a potential mine field for both buyer and seller. Be very careful, listen to all of this excellent advise. NO DEAL is better than a bad deal which can lose you your money or create legal problems and liabilities.

You might better give a dealer a fee to sell it and be SURE you are protected!!! They won't let it leave without it all in order!! For the safety sake it very well might be money WELL SPENT!!

Not all dealers are so honest, they just want their cut off the top and the legal stuff is not so important. Just don't get a hurry, take care of things in an orderly fashion and don't give up the MH until the funds are in your account, and maybe even have your bank set up a special account. A temporary account so that you don't have to give routing numbers etc to a stranger. Good luck!

The scamers today outnumber the potential honest buyers so beware of the signs ie unusual requests such as may we borrow your plates. Watch for ones who give you their life stories ie mother needs an operation. Someone willing to pay you full list price without seeing the coach is another red flag.

Bottom line in todays society when selling a motorhome, don't release it before you have the cash in your bank which means waiting for the bank to clear any certified cheques, money orders etc. Sad to say but don't trust anyone. The person asking for your plates is a criminal or someone who has little knowledge of how to purchase a vehicle.

Anyone who is selling a large ticket item will be contacted by criminals weather they realize it or not so beware of the signs.

good luck!

I have to believe IF the DEALER is doing the legal work.. Title trans and new tag of any kind HIS name is on the paper work and HE is responsible to have that part right... I wouldn't let the dealer hold my money... I would want to be there and GET THE MONEY when it all happens..

They say bank to bank is the best way! By the way, who did you advertise your MH with?
