Below is a picture of the handicap site area of Pennsylvania State Parks - Cowans Gap - PA DCNR
. I took this picture in 2000 for a co-worker who was looking for a state park with handicap campsites. As you can see, it is perfectly flat and paved. The sites are too. Behind the "ONE VEHICLE PER CAMPSITE" sign is a handicap accessible shower house. There are four handicap sites in this area. According to the campground map, there is also one handicap site in the "B" camping area but I don't have any information about it.
Cowans Gap SP is about 2-1/2 - 3 hours from Pittsburgh. It's a small park nestled in a beautiful setting among the mountains. The lake is only 42 acres but has an ADA Accessible fishing pier. Most, if not all, the amenities of the park are in close proximity to one another and easily accessible.
Cowans Gap has always been one of my favorite SPs because of its tranquility and picturesque setting. It's a great place if you want go somewhere just to relax and take in a little nature.
