I follow a rule I heard somewhere while camping of going through everything once a year and removing everything that wasn't used. If it wasn't used in the past year, it's not likely to be used the next season/year either. It really helps to keep stuff from collecting, adding weight and taking up space.

Well we had to abort our sleep over due to the new gel memory foam topper. It is very fume and take a few days to air out.
We are trying to only buy and pack things we know we will need every trip for now and then keep a list of "wish we had" for future trips.
We have also adopted a cool little idea we picked up from renting cabins in the past years which is keeping a note book of every trip. More like a diary of who how where why what and when so we can look back in the years to come, or, friends and visitors can pick it up and read about our adventures.
