For those few of you who think we should take from the rich their "fair share" here is a fact that should educate you!

If you took the net worth of all the millionaires and all of the billionaires in the US you would have $11.6 trillion which would not pay our national debt

OR you could divide the $11.6 trillion eavenly amongst our total population for a grand total of $48,000 each-I hope now you all get it-taxation is NOT an answer!

Dav5942, please listern to the 6 minute discussion on you tube by Nick Hanauer. Mr. Hanauer is a very wealthy venture capitalist and advocates a more fair share paid by the rich. His reasons are that it will increase his business. You really must hear him to see why this is and has been true.

In my opinion, we would not try to pay off the complete debt at once, more over time.

History has shown that when you increase the tax rates on the rich you do not nessesarily increase revenue to the government. Lawyers, accountants, brokers earn more, charities get bigger gifts.

I have yet to see a definition of "Fair Share". I have heard many folks decry the rich must pay their fair share but how much is that? What is the fair share of a single person making $50k and is his (or her) share any larger or smaller than a married couple making the same thing? Is his share more than a family who chose to have kids? Why should someone who chose to buy a house with a mortgage get a break on their taxes? No other country allows this.

There is a lot of seemingly unfair tax exemptions. But all the ones I get are totaly fair.

The only fair tax is a flat tax. And ALL should pay.

in a consumer economy, the working poor spend essentially every dollar they get back into the economy. The wealthy folks, on a percentage basis, not nearly as much.

You can only have so much stuff......

Would be interesting to see the relative statistics of the 99% vs the 1% when it comes to "churn".

The Fair Tax which has a prebate for essential services of life. The only problem is that it takes all of the decision making out of Washington. It also drastically spurs manufacturing of products in America.

And then there are those (me) that support moving to a consumption tax. Quit taxing income and tax what you buy. Rich(er) people buy expensive things, poor people don't.

Hey, I'm already annoyed that Amazon will begin collecting sales tax from Texas residents on July 1. But let's not open that can o'worms.

I guess we need to get back to the OP, "Social Security Changes." I just hope it's still around in a few years.

With the turns of this discussion I sincerely doubt that Social Security will get changed until it is way too late. We can't change the system unless we are willing to change the system and it doesn't appear that most on here want to see it changed because it may have a detrimental effect on themselves. It really is ironic because we are an RV forum which means that most of us have spent tens of thousands of dollars on what is a recreational expenditure yet we don't want any change to the system that may effect our benefits.

Somebody help me understand the tax deductible contribution thing. Say you donate $1000. Just for an example, if you didn't, you would pay 20% tax on that $1000. With the donation, you can now deduct $1000 from your income. That means you won't pay the 20% tax on the $1000, but you're still out $800. I understand that it can put you in a lower tax bracket, but forget about that in this example.

Saw it. His answer is to tax the rich and give it to the government. Unfortuanately government does not create jobs(other than govt jobs which are unneeded and overpaid). They only put us further into debt and create more regulations which restricts private job growth!

As I said you can take all the net worth from M and Billionaires and you don't have squat. Would be more than happy to give up SS if it was put to well use.

We could save billions if the IRS had traceablility of the refunds it passes out. They pass out these refunds based on stolen SSNs from both live and dead citizens. The IRS has no idea who they gave the money to. It is not traceable.

Also I think they are passing out refunds to people that have not paid taxes at all.

As I understand 50 percent of citizens do not pay any tax.

Our tax code needs complete revision.

They would rather give the $1,000 to a church, hospital, wounded warriors, etc than give even a piece of it the gov't where it will most likely be used to build a bridge to nowhere, high speed rail from nowhere to nowhere, or be stolen by a corrupt individual. They get to choose where their money is spent.

A lot of folks forget how much the rich greedy B*st*rd 1% has given in the way of hospitals, colleges, museums, help for the needy and so much more. Much of this giving was done because they wanted to. Some as a result of the tax code.

It happens all the time that depending on your situation you can get a refund for more than you paid in if you paid anything at all. What a country!

No one wants to touch the popular tax deductions - personal exemptions, child tax credits, mortgage deductions, tuition credits, day care credits, and so on. Heck here in SC a few years back they passed a tax free holiday for guns and ammunitions. During a recent tax overhaul committee they wouldn't even think of repealing it.
