CVSA schedules nationwide safety blitz for Oct. 19-25

Truckers who drive unsafely and four-wheelers who drive unsafely around trucks will be the targets of an enforcement blitz beginning this weekend.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and law enforcement are teaming up Oct. 19-25 for what they're calling "Operation Safe Driver."

"Inattention, insufficient awareness of traffic conditions, and unsafe maneuvers by drivers are far and away the leading causes of fatal crashes between passenger cars and commercial vehicles," said John H. Hill, administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, according to the CVSA Web site.

Is it about time that they...the police...crack down on truck driver....or the 4 wheelers? Who do you think is the more unsafe driver?

I think they need to crack down on both. If a car, doing the legal speed limit, is passing another vehicle, and a big truck comes racing up behind them, trying to "bully" their way around, then they should get a ticket, or two, or three.

However, the car that tailgate a big truck, because they want to save fuel, (and I got a way to cure that) or goes around a truck, only to cut him off to make a right lane exit, should also get a ticket or two.

In 20+ years of driving, there are bad driver out there, in big trucks and cars.

I'm beginning to believe that the number of "courteous and professional" driver our there are shrinking to a low number, and that is in both vehicles.

I've seen everything from putting on makeup to changing cloths while people drive. I've heard truck drivers talking about how much fun it is to get close behind a travel trailer, then dart out to go around them just to make the trailer sway.

Soooooooo, let the flames begin. Hay, I got big shoulders......it goes with my big belly....it's a matched set.

Don't forget all the idiots with their cell phones trying to weave through traffic at 75 mph. Penalty should be duck taping their mouth shut for a minimum of three weeks. That would probably help them with their weight problem too.
