Thanks Wayne... we were there for that launch of STS131! What a sight it was. Launch was at 6:21am so the sun came up minutes following the launch and put on a show lighting up the toxic soup in the sky left behind by the shuttle.

I seen a nite launch some years ago and let me tell you.... THAT WAS ONE HELL OF A SHOW.
We were at least ten miles from the launch sight and when they lit off the boosters you could read the Bible by the light it put out. We watched it all the way into orbit because we could see the rockets burning till they hit the orbit and shut them down.
Question...... What the hay they gonna do with the 'cape'' when they blast the last shuttle off?

God bless our vets and thank them for their service to this great nation.....

thanks that was really interesting
we had the unfortunate timing to watch challenger destroy its self back in the 80's
and then by dumb luck had duty CDO at NAS pcola when Columbia had its untimely accident.
we had to mobilize and go look for parts, that was eerie to say the least

they are a very unique aircraft

They're from a road repair crew. This week you can see them over on 5th street.

Awesome show Wayne.

Thank you very much. I have been able to see the shuttle from my various houses since they started the shuttle. I sure do hate to see this technology be lost. I have gotten may a thrill standing in my yard and seeing the flame and contrails. We watched the Challenger from about 50 miles away as we also listened to it on the radio. Sometimes, we forget all the inventions that came from the program. I suspect many are in a typical RV.
