Sticks and bricks house
Today I had a new a/c heat pump unit put in, (18,000 btu)
the apartment adjacent to our rv port, 875 ish sq feet
220 volt ...wide open max fan, temp set at 65F it pulled only 1.8 amps....yes 1.8, thats less than 400 watts
i wish the 15,500 unit in the rv was that efficient, would be able to run the a/c on the 3000 watt inverter

In our 2000 Dutch Star we've run one 13.5 heat pump off a 2500 watt inverter, but the batteries only lasted about 20 min. doing that.

Where were measurements taken? It must be an ultra-high efficiency unit for the compressor to draw so little.

Guessing there might be a multi speed blower and compressor involved. As the demand for cooling increases, so will the amps it pulls. To remain effective, they run on low most of the time, rarely shutting off. If it can't keep up, it goes to a higher speed - pulling more amps.
