Remember this actually happening when I was a kid.

Mom asks: Whats that ringing

My Aunt Laura answers: oh its just my ears

Poor Aunt Laura wasn't known for her smarts.

I'm a "Junior", named after my father. When I got SS I had to get a birth certificate. The clerk was walking back from the printer, looked at it and asked who my father was.

"Oh", I said, "my mother always told me it was the guy she was married to at the time, but you never know, do you? I"ll bet your mother told you the same thing."

The place roared.

My cousin, who has lived out in the Ohio countryside all of her life and is in her '50s, asked her husband just last year "where do tree frogs live". We still kid her about it. She isn't blond but her mother was.

I'm English but have lived in Virginia for the last 30 years. My accent is almost as strong as the day I arrived.
I was in a Burger King and the server having established I was originally from England, asked me if I minded if she asked me a personal question?
My standard answer as it is very common is "you can ask but who knows if I will answer"

She said" How long did it take you to learn to talk that way ?"

I have a few examples of stupid questions, and I'll get the worst one out of the way first...

The reporter who sticks a microphone in someone's face during a live news report, and asks something like:

"So, how does it make you feel to watch your house burn down!?"

Well gee, let me think...

Favorite stupid question #2: EVERY single sports reporter at ANY televised sporting ALWAYS asks the SAME STUPID QUESTION to the first sports star they talk to after the game:
"What was the biggest reason for your winning the game tonight!?"

Just once- JUST ONCE I wish one of these jocks would answer:

"Well Bob, we scored more points than they did." -- and then turn around and walk away! JUST ONCE!!

But my favorite personal stupid question, is one that many of us share, I'm sure-- Anyone who owns, or works for, a certain type of business, which is also part of the business's name-- such as "Nancy's Sewing Shop" or "Bills Car Repairs"-- has had this question asked many times when answering the phone... Example:
"Hello, Nancy's Sewing Shop, may I help you?"

"Yes, do you do sewing?"

In my case, I own an engraving shop. You don't know HOW many times I've wanted to change my answer...

When we tell people that we drove to 49 States , a lot will ask which one did we miss.

I'm constantly amazed by the stupid questions reporters ask people.

My business is Sutter Buttes Communications.

I have seen many mountains and hills described as Buttes. Our business is associated with the world smallest mountain range. The Sutter Buttes.

Phone call, You know it is a telemarketer when they ask "is this Sutter Butts Communications"?. My answer, "would you name your business Butts"?
