Taking Another Woman Out

After 21 years of marriage my wife wanted me to take another woman out for dinner and a movie. She said I love you but I know this other woman loves you and would like to spend some time with you.
The other woman was my mother that had been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and 3 children made it only possible to visit her occasionally.
That night I called her to go out foe dinner and a movie.
"What's wrong, are you well?"She asked.
I thought it would be pleasant to spend some time with you, just the two of us.
She thought about for a moment then responded I would like that very much.
That Friday after work I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress she wore to celebrate her last anniversary she smiled from a face. That was radiant of an Angle's. I told my friends I was going out with my son, they were impressed she said as she got into the car. They can't wait to hear about our meeting.
We went to a restaurant that wasn't elegate, but was cozy. My mother took my arm

as if she was the First Lady. After we. Set down I had to read the menu, she could only read. Large print. Half way thru thee entries I lifted my eyes and. Saw her staring at. Me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips, It was I that used to read the menu when you were small she said. Then it's time to relax and let me return the favor I responded.
During dinner we has an agreeable conversation-nothing extrodinary just catching up on events in each other's life. We talked so much we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you, I agreed.
How was your dinner date my wife asked when I got home.
Very nice much more than I could have imagined.
A few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack, it happened so suddenly that I had no time to do anything for her. Some time later, I received a envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt In it from the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said, I paid this bill in advance, I wasn't sure I could be there, but nevertheless I paid for two plates-one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that meant to me.
I love you son.
At that moment I understood the importance of saying in time, I LOVE YOU and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing is more important than family.

That is a great story, my Dad died of a sudden heart attack when I was 25, and my Mom died unexpectedly of a massive stroke about 10 years ago. I would give anything to have the opportunity you did again with my parents. Life is too short, thanks for sharing.

I lost both my parents this last year....Dad in November 2013 and my mom on her birthday January 2014. I got a bit of time with both of them before they passed away. That was a great story about you and your mom........

Wonderful story, I took care of my mom for her last 18 years. If she wasn't feeling well all I had to do Is mention a casino and she was in the car waiting I miss those times for sure.

I love that story! Thank you for posting it. I lost my Daddy in 2001 on Christmas Day and my mother nine years later on December 16th. How I miss them especially at this time of year. I used to go to lunch with Mama & Daddy every Sunday and then Mama and I continued the practice after Daddy passed away. To this day I miss our "girls time". I was so fortunate to live in the same city as my parents!

In 2008 my Wife and I traveled to the Nursing Home where my Mother lived to have Christmas Dinner with her. When we got there she was comatose. We stayed, had dinner, and then went back home to have another dinner with our children. I intended to return to the Nursing Home after we ate, but they called and advised me that she had passed. I think she died on Christmas just so that every Christmas we would think of her. It worked.

Just so you know, she had a massive stroke in 2003, and I visited her once or twice a week until she died. She could no longer speak, but she could smile and shake her fist. I kept chocolates beside her bed and chair at all times.

Nice story. I still miss my parents. Lost my mother in 2005 and father in 2011. Neither were well for some time before they left so in some ways it was a blessing but I still think about them and miss the chance to bounce idea's off them. They were always my fall back, line of last resort resource. Without them, I kind of feel like I am a bit exposed. I never realized that role they filled in my life until they were gone. I appreciate them all the more now.

Lost my Dad almost forty years ago. He passed way too young and I miss him every day. Just like you he was my fall back and when he was gone I felt lost.
