The LAST goodyear tire I will ever own

Driving along in my F350 Dually, minding my own business, when BLAM! Tore off the ABS sensor, mangled the plastic in the wheel well, bent the fender. No warning.

Goodyear tires, in MY experience, fail with alarming and monotonous frequency. I will never, ever place another Goodyear tire on any vehicle or trailer I own, nor will I recommend them to anyone who asks.

Had the DW been pulling her 40' horse trailer when this happened, I doubt she would have been able to recover safely. She drives this truck 90% of the time, was just dumb luck that I happened to be at the wheel when this latest Goodyear failure occurred.

Be sure to turn it in to the dealer you purchased it from . Had two blowouts on my RV a couple years ago and they almost purchased my new set with their settlement. Also take a close look at your other tires if purchased at the same time. A third one had a tread separation when we took it off.

Just curious how old were they, and was it because of low inflation? deSanford

This tire was less than a year old. I had checked all 12 tire pressures (truck, trailer and spares) before departing that morning, as I do anytime we are towing. We were pulling an empty flat bed equipment trailer to go pick up a load of hay when it happened. This did NOT occur due to low/high pressure.

Sorry to hear that man. I'm glad everyone involved is OK. I've had good to great experience with Goodyears on my vehicles. I've also used Goodrich and Pirelli's too. The Pirelli's were mostly for my race cars though. Might I suggest a nice set of Michelin's? My dad used to have those on his tractor-trailer and he loved them. Just a suggestion and I would definitely follow-up with Goodyear to find out what happened and what kind of recourse you have. Good luck with it.

That's a shame. My problems with Goodyears have always been under my RVs (Marathons and G614 RSTs); they've generally been OK under the cars & trucks. Personally, if I were going to make a change, I'd go with Michelin. I've never had one fail on cars, trucks or RVs.

You might find it worth your while to pursue this claim with Goodyear. In 2 cases (1 Marathon and 1 G614) I had damage to my 5th wheels. Goodyear replaced all tires and paid to have the damage repaired in both cases.

I can honestly say that every blowout I have ever had has been a Goodyear tire. A horse trailer we bought new came with them, and all 4 blew out. The last dually we had was a GMC, and came with Goodyear rubber. Had a blow out driving to go pick up the above mentioned horse trailer. That one was a sidewall zipper blowout and caused no damage to the truck. Goodyear replaced all 6 when I wrote a scathing letter to them, but replaced them with the same model tire. I had no confidence in that tire, so my tire dealer offered to take the 6 new GYs in trade on a set of Continental commercial truck tires. They performed very well for me until I sold that truck.

Hey Ramblin,

Sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with those GY's, I have all GY's on my coach the G670 Series, but come this March the rears will all be 7 years old and need to be changed, what suggestions would you have ? I met another fulltimer who is raving about Toyo tires but I dont really think thats the brand I want at all. I would appreciate your opinions.

Cheers !!!

The company I work for (a VERY large trucking company) was buying goodyear steer tires for a while. They got tired of hearing drivers complaining about front end wobble, (out of round tires) , not to mention worn out componets. Now we use Michelin's, no more problems... No goodyears for me, we have Coopers on our class A and Love them !! (and my jeep)

I run Michelins on my RV and have absolutely no reason to want to run anything else. They are, in my humble opinion, the gold standard by which other RV tires are measured.

Do look at joining the FMCA and taking advantage of their Michelin discount plan. It will save you enough on a set of XRVs to recover the membership fee and put some diesel in your tank.

I've had GY RV 670s for years...no issues at all. You said they were less than a year old...what does the date code say?

Any tire manufacturer is capable of making a bad tire. The real question is what does that manufacturer do when a tire fails. OP's complaint is about Goodyears but others reference that their problem tires were covered by the manufacturer. That would not have happened if the tires had been made by Firestone. Their corporate policy is the customer is always wrong. Remember the Firestone 500 in the seventies and the Ford Explorer? In both cases Firestone made defective tires and in both cases Firestone said it was not their fault. YMMV.
