At least it's not scripted... like ALL the reality TV shows are.

Technically, NOT scripted, just not real life. There's one show where people bid on the contents of shipping containers - one episode showed the winning bidder finding an old sidecar motorcycle in the back of the container. I happen to know the owner of that motorcycle, and he actually rented it to the production company so they could put it into the container for it to be "found"...

He also had an on-screen role as an "expert" on the machines - his role was to assess the value of the motorcycle. He said that they told him to make up whatever he wanted to say - no script was involved.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

If it's a Reality Show and a camera is running, it is more than likely scripted. Buddy went to the Pawn Star's store. Said it was nothing like what's on TV.

All correct. While I watch some races, my overall opinion is that NASCAR is the World Wrestling Federation of motor racing.

The whole thing is skewed far too much in the direction of show business as evidenced by their recent fining a driver $25,000 for making a mildly negative comment about the current generation car. It's no wonder some people call it NASCRAP...

There's no other form of the sport that utilizes high-horsepower rear-wheel drive that also has tires the same size front and rear - this creates unique handling considerations - as does the relatively crude suspension - and aero that's subject to changes induced by other cars nearby - a wide variety of ovals that all take very different kinds of setup and compromise - all while being VERY boxed in by the rules where every advantage quickly gets legislated away.

Other forms of motorsport have one or two of those characteristics, but not all of them at once.

If they got rid of owner points and former champion slots and other overly fan-based claptrap the back 1/3 of the field would go back to saturday night short track or retirement in a hurry.

Going the other way doesn't seem to be as hard - because NASCAR guys that drive IMSA, LeMAns, touring cars, even Gordon in the F1 car, are just happy as hell to get in something that actually turns and stops.

Earnhart Sr. would disagree, I am sure.

Motorsport has "eras", and Earnhardt Sr was from a different one than the one we have today.
