NASCAR has become so soap opera like everything else she was put on that pole just to fill seats. By the fifth lap she will be in the middle of the pack and she has a 50/50 chance of even finishing the race. Go 88 !!!

Right now Danica is a cash cow(so to speak) for NASCAR. She is beautiful, thin and curvy, too. What better way to attract the attention of the "good ole boys" and get them to once again fill the seats? It doesn't matter if they are returning to the seats just to see if she crashes, wins, or drops out, or are there to truly cheer on the most successful woman driver in closed-track racing to-date, NASCAR still wins.
That is just one of my reasons for no longer watching NASCAR, it is all about big money.

the problem with being on ploe is there's only two ways to go - stay where you are or go backwards.

Daytona has been won from the pole just 9 times (out of 53).

Y'know, the worst player on any professional basketball team is still a darned good basketball player. Whoever comes in last in any NASCAR race is still a great driver.

I think unless you've been out there it's best to leave her alone. Patrick is a great driver in some heavy competition. Give her credit.

I heard some rumblings today about her weight difference, but I think NASCAR makes them add the difference based on a 180# driver.

Most drivers who get the pole position seldom win.. Next season there will be another flavour of the day, its how professional sports runs in today's world. Dana said in an interview, she was taught to be the fastest driver not the fastest female driver, so good on her.

weight makes little difference on an oval, where getting on and off the gas is overwhelmingly dominated by drag.

On a road course with a lot of slow (less than 80mph) corners, it can make a difference with light cars.

As a rule of thumb, some people equate weight at 7 lbs/hp, in other words, the car behaves like it's a bit more powerful, because it gets to the corner a bit quicker. The rule ought to be expressed in torque instead of hp.

I'm betting she will never be in the front row for the start of the 500. She will do her "norm" and pile her car up in the 150s....which will put her behind the field for the start of the 500.

To phrase her success using her favorite word she uses during interviews....."Ummmmm"

I do(to race) but once again NHRA needs to follow NASCAR'S lead....(they did with the points)...now they need to do it with the cars...PS was NEVER created to have pro mod looking cars...Now the big 3 is building a car suitable for PS...time to make them look real again....same with funny car...tone down the body mods...make them look somewhat like a real car.
Time for speed limits in ST, SG, SC....they have gone overboard with MPH....180mph+ SC cars are silly! They have a class for big mph...Top Dragster

The super classes were designed for the lower budget racers... you don't need a $20-$30k engine to run with the others in SC..'
Now online Nat dragsters....chassis cert took a jump last year..etc etc...they are loosing their base customers..be it spectator or racer...

Danika can drive or she wouldn't be driving for Tony! Tony is a racer at heart and chose her for a reason.
Montoya can't even pass a track blower under caution with flashing lights without hitting it!

336, your right...when on the track alone she can..she proved it Sunday...in with 42 others..well, lets say there is room for improvement, based on her performance last year.

The initial post though pertained to...there are 42 others racing...the media doesn't need to make the whole program the "Danica" show/commercial breaks

Statistics show that, but there is no logic to it. Someone who starts last can win any race.

I agree, and there is room for woman in the sport but lets give all the woman in the sport equal air time. Nationwide has woman but seldom mentioned compared to Danica. I guess it's more on the lines of big sponsorship that counts. Sunday will fun to watch. It's been to long between races.
