If you want some real fun you should see a professional athlete's tax return. At the major league level they will have to file in every state in which they play or practice that has an income tax. That can literally be over 15 states. The last time we did a return for a hockey player it was for 11 different states. Luckily the Canadians didn't pick up on that and require the same thing.

Yes. It was simple.

How much did you make?

Send it in.

I always owe money so I file an extension and make them wait until October to get their money. Still have to pay it but makes me feel better keeping it as long as I can.

Statistically, your odds of being audited are much less when you extend your taxes. Remember that an extension only extends your filing date, not the payment of your taxes. A lot of folks think that filing an extension means they don't have to pay their taxes until October 15 and the tax money is still due by April 15.

I send them $5,000 to $7,000 in April. Balance in Oct, just gives me a perverse since of pleasure.

Years ago I would always file them as soon as the W-2's arrived because I would always get a refund. Back then I was young and naive.

Since retiring, I now file them the very last day because I always owe money. I finally learned over the years that I would rather use their money throughout the year versus the government using my money and not giving me any interest for using it.

I even pay the small penalty because that money is making far more in my tax deferred IRA than it would be in the governments pocket.
