Desole, je ne parle pas tres bien francais.

However, I did not have to listen to the audio, the video was captivating. Hee hee!

Observed trials never caught on in the US the way they did in Europe.
I always enjoyed it. I wan't the best, but I had fun.

Observed Trials

I used to be an EMT volunteer at a state SVRA where they staged these events a couple of times a year. (Nothing this extreme though.) There would be no more that 30-50 competitors but they were amazing to watch. The guy who usually won these events never wore a helmet until the state forced him to. He rode with an (unlit) pipe in his mouth. Never ever saw his feet touch the ground.

I talked one of the judges into letting me try one of the stream bed sections on my 400cc motocrosser. I did not 'clean' the section, but I didn't crash either.

You can get a trials bike shipped to you for under $8,000.

I just happen to have a '76 Honda 250 trials. I bought it for off-roading because of the 4 cycle engine. Didn't have to have much speed to climb hills, could just creep up them. Have not had it running for about 10 years. Really enjoyed it back in the day.
I think they were about $800-$900 when new.

Wayne - thanks for posting that. I have always had a soft spot for trials riders. I just never could develop the skills. To me, throttle control was backing off just enough to maintain traction through the ess curves at 90 or so.

For MattC. I don't think S.E. Mich. is a dry place. You must be in AZ now. I grew up in the Detroit subs. Now 8 mths in N. Mich. and 4 mths in warmer sunnier places.

I made it through The Tail Of The Dragon on an 830 pound touring bike.

No crash, but I did go slow around some of those 180 degree turns. Scraped the foot rests several times.

Nice video Wayne! Really nice. Amazing agility. I've scrapped the foot rests on my Ultra more than once. Hate it every time I do it.

Back when I lived in Troy, Michigan, I did some flat-tracking, Motocross, Scrambles and road-racing. Also had a Bultaco Sherpa Trials bike. On some courses, a foot touching the ground was enough to disqualify you (I was disqualified a lot). Although decent at it, I certainly was nowhere near the skill level of those guys.

Bruce Brown, in his "On Any Sunday" movie, tagged Trials Riders as "The violin players of Motorcycling". For good reason.
