Think About Your Parents For A Moment

Your birthday is their celebration
Your happiness is their joy
Your future is their legacy
If they had to bury you it would kill them

So please, the next time they say "be safe", or "call me when you get there ok"
don't just brush it off,
Because to them, you are their everything.

Having lost my 26 y/o daughter to a drunk driver..Yes burying my child left me physically and mentally destroyed. I was very close to death. 22 years ago this Dec.

Miss her like it was yesterday, today really.

Thinking of ours every day as we travel through the US doing family research. Our family learned long ago to file travel plans and to stay in touch. It does matter.

I also thinks about my parents often and wish they were still here. Those days growing up can never be replaced but can be remembered.

Just spent the last 5 days with my brother digitizing all the family slides. Talk about remembering. Both our parents are now gone. 1 almost 10 years now. I do think of them often and wonder if they would be positive about who I am as a person. I like to think so. They taught me many lessons, I do believe they would be happy to see how I have been able to use what they taught me as I navigate my own river of life.

For 54 years I never could remember their birthdays but now remember that on 11/25/2011 my mom passed away and on 4/18/2012 my dad passed away. Think about them everyday.

Buried momma about a month ago. Daddy passed in 1990.
I think about how different my world has been from theirs.
They were both born at home in houses that had no electricity or indoor plumbing.
I remember daddy saying that one time when he was a kid all they had to eat in the house was some cornmeal and some lard. They went hunting and all they could get was a possum. So they had possum.
I would play hooky from school on occasion to goof off. They would take a two week recess in September to pick cotton.
I have more clothes then I have time to wear. They got one pair of shoes a year.
I have over 100 tv channels. They had only a few channels on a radio.
I have plowed with a small tractor. Daddy plowed with a mule.
The list goes on.

Amazing how wise they were

Isn't it funny as a youth and teenager I thought my parents weren't quite with it. But today as I live life I'm amazed at how wise they were.

My dad worked hard at a not so high paying job -- brought his income home to pay house payments buy food for the family. He raised a large garden and mom canned much of it for winter use. In short they taught me with out actually telling me what they were doing -- they taught by example.!! Also I was tasked to help in all this, in planting cultivating, weeding and harvesting. So today it gives me pleasure to have a small garden just to remember those days of my youth.

Like earlier posts mentions, our moms and dads live on through us.

Loren

A lot of wisdom in that, and it should be on every child's bulletin board, regardless of the child's age!

My wife did when her daughter died from a blood clot in her leg that migrated to her lungs. We "inherited" two grandkids then.
