You folks really are amazing - thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers, they are working.

The little guy underwent a trial on CPAP, but did not do very well and was placed back on minimal ventilator support. The attendings had made the call to do a tracheostomy. It did not feel right to me and we had a meeting to discuss it. They then consulted with a renound surgeon, head of pediatric surgery who feels that a diphragm plication would significantly help, if not resolve the issue to the point that he could be removed from the ventilator and go home without breathing aide. Everyone at the hospital said this surgeon only gets involved when he feels there's a likely successful outcome and is highly regarded. I feel very good about the situation.

It is a major surgery, but I feel quite confident that he'll pull through just fine as he's done so many times before in his short little life.

The big day is Wednesday. I'll be sure to post an update afterwards.

In the meantime, my wife, daughter and I cannot thank you enough for all of your thoughts, prayers and support for our baby boy.

Merry Christmas, fellow RVers!

My apologies for the bump. I just wanted to post a little update. As noted, our son was born with respiratory failure. It was predicted that 1. He may not make it. 2. If he did, he'd be on a ventilator long-term.

A day before a traceostomy was scheduled, I didn't feel right about it and pushed the issue a bit further. An amazing, well respected surgeon got involved and was confident that a diaphragmatic plication surgery would do the trick for our baby. He performed the surgery and 6 days later, he was extubated and breathing room air! Two weeks later, we brought him home... no tubes or devices!!

He's doing very well and thriving at home. He may still have challenges, delays, etc. and he has been confirmed to be deaf in one ear... however, I'm still over the moon. He's doing all of the normal baby things with no indication of any issues. Everyone is simply amazed at his progress.

Thank you all so very much for your prayers and thoughts. They, combined with love and an amazing medical team were the ticket to our son's success.

God Bless,

God is still in the miracle business - whether through His healing hand, or through guiding the hands of the surgeon - He's still there. God bless. Lonnie
