There was a time when all positions of authority were respected: Police, Parents, Adults, Teachers, etc. That time is gone. It's gone because of the erosion of the family, the idea of political correctness, lack of holding individuals accountable for their actions, the inability to indicate to individuals that they did not meet the standards of decency or the grades. When was the last time you herd of holding a kid back in school because they could not or would not do the work??? Why did we start to give every kid a medal just for showing up??

Yes there were bad individuals who overstepped their authority but don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Just fix the problem. Unfortunately the main problem is front page every day on the news. Our Government leaders are making the situation much, much worse and that's by DESIGN. It's called divide and conquer.

I never allow a solider in uniform to pass me by without a word of thanks and a hand shake. The same goes for police officers.

Thanks Sonny B, being retired after 31 years of service and burying some of my close friends, your thoughts are much appreciated. To those that think Law Enforcement is out to get you or are concerned they are too para military, I feel sorry for you. You really don't understand that we were even more para military 30 years ago, and over the years two things happened, one is we had to keep up with the weaponry the bad guys were using and two, visibility is so much more today due to technology.

So the bottom line is there are a lot of great Cops out there that are keeping evil from your door, and you don't even know it, as they do it on a daily basis and you rarely hear those stories. Sure as in any line of work there are going to be a few bad apples, and I agree one is too many but we do our best to get rid of them, so don't let that affect your beliefs of all the good ones out there.

Arctic Owl,
A white PO being shot does not fall under the guidelines or the agenda of the BLM group. The same is true if innocent black children are shot by a black person. It has to be a white person doing the shooting. Then they can again shout about more gun control. Truth and reality are often the same.

I believe the vast majority of LEOs are good, decent people. The problem I see is too many of those good decent folks protect the few bad apples among them by "The Line of Blue." All professions have bad actors in them, LEOs among them. The best way to get respect is to admit that and have all those good folks push the bad actors out.

First off, have never met a Leo I didn't like.
Lawyers judges and lawmakers I detest.
The Leo's go to work everyday like mechanics and plumbers, with the exception that the Leo's have an incomplete tools box.
Tools should be easy to use and organized to make the job efficient and less costly.
Once the the charges are laid most things become a mess with the unorganized tools of what we call the Justice System.

My hats go off to the Leo's to work with tools that are inadequate at best.

That does nothing for public relations, or to garner respect. Is it a show of force.

I come from family of LEOs. And, the retired ones in my family admit that what is going on today with police becoming militarized, is only going to escalate.

As American Citizens it's more important now than ever to realize that our constitutional rights and civil liberties are at stake. Keep an open eye.
That's why people should know the difference between an AR-15 (self loading sporting rifle) and a fully automatic military rifle.

To All Law Enforcement Police

The military look took on a very new meaning when 2 well armed individuals robbed an LA bank then used those weapons to try and make there escape. It was in early 1997, a few months before I retired, in LA where 2 armed men in ballistic bullet proof clothing, with fully automatic highly modified AK 47 type weapons. These 2 individuals decided to shoot it out with local police. The LAPD was armed with issued 38 specials and very few 9MM handguns most also had 12 ga issued model 870 Remington pump shotguns. One of the watch commanders even went to a local gun shop and got all the weapons he could until SWAT arrived. Over 1700 rounds were fired by the 2 robbers and police. The police were outgunned, pinned behind cover by automatic fire.

Soon after, we were sent to inservice training for a week to be trained in the use of our soon to be issued AR-15 Bushmasters. Every patrol cars trunk lock was beefed up and alarms installed. Take time and read about it if your too young to remember.

They Should know but usually don't, while some prefer the issue to be masked by ignorance. Much like a clip actually being a magazine, semi-automatic is not an assault weapon.

Yeah, my Uncle Leo was a good guy. They say Leo Gorcey and Leo Durocher were good guys too.

Note that the police took down the heavily armed Midwestern bandits of the 1930s (they commonly used BARs) without acting like or dressing like soldiers, though the cops were certainly heavily armed. And this penchant many coppers have for calling the citizenry "civilians" is disturbing, as though coppers are soldiers, an occupying army that must maintain it's distance from the conquered.

I'm reading some passive-aggressive racism in this thread. Some of you people should be ashamed; your behavior, while it must be tolerated, no longer meets with wide approval.
