I guess only "old men" get grumpy...

Hey, I've heard some really tough critics from both younger and older men and even women... Let's not be too focused on those older guys.

I've learned a lot from my seniors over the years... I sometimes wish I had listened more to those grumpy old men/women that were trying to help me with their wealth of knowledge and experience. I may have avoided a lot of things by doing so...

This forum aside, some of us get Grumpy because: 1. We have heard it all many times before. 2. We can spot BS quicker, from experience. 3. We are too old to put up with it any more.

I'll never argue with an id-10-t. They will wear you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Speaking as both a moderator and a member... I have seen my share of these types of posts outlined by the OP. Although, I certainly wouldn't think they're isolated to grumpy old men.

IMO, when a problem arises, it is because someone has attacked the poster and not the post. There is usually a lot less trouble if someone responds "I didn't think what you posted is right because .... blah, blah, blah." ... rather than, "SINCE WHEN??????? Only a FOOL would ... blah, blah, blah."

Some feel that this is political correctness but I disagree. It's simply being civil.

I would be the first to admit that you can respond too quickly, without thinking how your post may be perceived by the recipient. A thoughtful response is generally always better received that a quick quip...

Also, we all make comments that we may want to take back later...

Now you've hurt my feelings! You left out grumpy old women!

Actually, I agree with all of the posts that talk about civility and common manners. We can agree to disagree without name calling and character assassination. I'm going to be wrong some, and so will you, if we're really honest. If I am, let me know and I'll make it right.

Peace,

You wait until you wake up with acid reflux, drool on your chin and a sore back. Then, your bad knee locks up when you get out of bed. You can't find your trifofocals. When you get to the bathroom, it is about 15 seconds too late. You drop and break your false teeth when putting them in. Your hearing aid quits, again. You want bacon and eggs for breakfast, but your diet allows only oatmeal.

That is enough to make anyone grumpy!!

I think that the problem lies with the personalities out there in the community. I would imagine "most" folks that take on the enormous responsibility of driving a 35 to 50 foot monstrosity that weighs 25,000 to 50,000 lbs, surrounded by drivers of autos that are frightened of our enormity and our proximity and truckers who are not, are probably type A personalities. The somewhat suggestive, "grumpy" replies are not really meant to offend but sometimes do. If you think your reply may be a bit edgy, maybe it would be a good idea to hold replies overnight and read it the next morning before sending. I guess that would be hard to do in most cases and I didn't wait to send this reply. (Impatience is a hallmark of a type A). Before I get pounded, I'm not a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist but I do watch Frasier in syndication.

I agree. One-upmanship in cyberspace. Usually it comes from those with the huge number of posts...as in maybe they have nothing better to do than assert themselves...incognito...and really need to get a life. I hoped this forum would be different, but it appears to contain the same cross-section of society as any other forum that I have ever joined. Why bother to attempt a helpful post if only to find yourself becoming upset reading some jerk's response? I certainly have better things to do with my time.

Now i am guilty of some of whats been posted here as well as someone who received a response that i had to take with a grain of salt. But all in all, the endless info that can be found and had here out weights the grief of someones bad day. This has had to be one of the best topics ever! Thank You from a grump almost old man!
