Tolls on Interstates

Looks like the door is opening and states may be allowed to toll the interstate highways in the not too distant future. If this happens, how will it affect your RVing? Would you just stay off the interstates whenever possible?

Nothing new. Some of the interstates in IL, IN, OH, PA, NJ, FL, and several other states have been toll for at least 25 years.

Yes I would. I avoid Tolls, I pay enough in Gas Taxes that I don't need to be dinged to drive down a road I have and continue to pay for every time I buy fuel.

Maybe they need to find a way to get revenue from the electric vehicles that aren't paying a fuel tax to maintain highways.

I love the back roads.

I'm a back roads man myself. I paid gas taxes for the last fifty years to build those interstates, I don't want to pay again just to use them.

Tolls can be a real kick in the wallet. I try to avoid toll roads but it's not always possible. What I hate is having your car in tow and the rate jumps astronomically. I-95 in DE. is 13 miles, MH alone toll is $25 when I have the toad attached it jumps to $47.50. I get charged at the same rate as do semi's. $22 for the car????? Their explanation is that they go by the number of axles. I guess I could save money by unhooking before the toll booth, then hook up again on the other side.

We already pay for the roads to be repaired thru gasoline tax, state and federal. Its just another way to get more money to keep on spending. They also take money for road repair and spend on other things.

Seriously? Like we already aren't over taxed! We pay more than enough tax to maintain services, but politicians don't know how to properly spend what is taken in. Electric vehicles create less noise and air pollution, so I say give them a break.

After last summer's trip from MI to MT, I stay off the interstates as much as I can. Horrid conditions, truck congestion,,,, just yuck.

I read someplace that 2 states out West had passed law where they would charge you for Miles Driven. I think Washington State is actually testing it now. They would require you to add a module to your vehicle and it would track and report your mileage. When you fill up a charge would be added and you would PAY the fee and for fuel minus the State gas Tax. Notice the Fed Tax wasn't deleted. Guess Texaco was right.... Pay me NOW or Pay Later. The federal Interstate system is a mess. I-40 is worse than ever. Especially through Midwest states. Monies from State & Federal fuel Taxes has been spent, but not on maintaining the roads. Safe travels... ed

Being considered in California also. Wonder why lots of businesses and folks are leaving our state?

Pennsylvania has been trying for years to add tolls to I80 and I90. They spent all the federal money on mass transit in the big cities. Now the person in the white house has given the go ahead to the states to start charging tolls.

I find it amazing that people who work and pay taxes, have to pay tolls to go to work to pay for people who chose not to work at all.
