Black eyed peas with a an ample amount of ham and veggies cooked with them and of course served with fresh baked, home made cornbread.

Now that I've written that I'm hungry again.

Happy New Year All.

We always have some type of PORK. I asked my mother awhile back why PORK on New Years day? She said when a hog is foraging for food he is always moving forward. So I guess it will keep us moving forward this year.
Happy 2011 everyone. Rick & Robin

PS: The Big 10 went 0 for 5 today, I don't think there was PORK on the menu

Since I got married, 47 years ago, it has always been pork chop with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and baked apple. It was a tradition of my wife's family, so that is what we have. When the wife is happy, everyone... well you know.

My family does the pork and sauerkraut meal... Which I can't stand!

DH and I decided to go snow skiing yesterday...we ended up having pizza and beer. LOL Which is way more fun than staying home and cooking all day long.

Blackeyed peas of course, with liberal amounts of jalapenos and ham added. This and cornbread along with fried potatoes with onion has been our traditional new years meal for as long as I can remember. It's good food, still waiting on the good luck! Haven't won the lottery yet.

I guess there's something to be said about eating for luck but I think the TCU Horn Frogs just kicked butt with or without the "luck food".
Alabama kicked butt, Florida kicked butt, Mississippi State kicked butt, but TCU did not kick butt, they played a good game and avoided costly penalties. Not to take anything away from TCU, they're a good team that was coached very well, but if not for a missed field goal UW could have won that game. The Big Ten has not fared well in the bowls this year. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, changes in how teams are selected to compete in the bowls.

It looks like the black-eyed peas are the winner this year!

I have actually found/adjusted a recipe for the "Hoppin' John" version of black-eyed peas that is evidently soooo good that I am being asked to "Can and Sell" it !!

I am hoping the newest version brings me lots of luck this year!!
