Hmmm... I guess my time as a CSR for Direct TV and Dish means nothing then. You apparently know everything.
Direct from Dish chat.
Edward (ID: X3C): The TV2 fee is associated with the ability to watch a second television off of one of our DUO receivers. However, if you choose to sign up with AutoPay with Paperless Billing and provide a valid email address, I would be pleased to remove this fee from your account.
Nunya Biznez: that tells me nothing. What is the reason for the phone line... billing PPV?
Edward (ID: X3C): Yes Nunya. To get the charges for VOD and PPV movies ordered using remote.

Have DirectTV, our updates come over the satellite link and none of the three receivers are connected to a phone line nor have they ever been. We have never paid extra for not being hooked to a phone line either.

Dish and Direct TV does wave the fee if you are on autopay.
Keep in mind that some updates that I am speaking of are for the receiver itself, not for your TV guide or tv programs.
But whatever... I'm "Absolutely wrong." end of story.

Thanks Glenn... just what I needed.... ANOTHER KICK IN THE TEETH.
I am not completely wrong. And some hardware updates do ( in 2008) come via the phone line, at least for the home systems. Really have no clue about the Mobile Dishes but it would make sense that they update via Satellite.
Maybe I am being overly sensitive... but for some "OSOB," who doesn't know me, to flat out state... "You are completely wrong." without even giving me a bit of respect.... sorry but that just irks me. I find it totally rude and completely offensive. Enough so I am seriously considering quitting the forum all together.

Well...it's not inexpensive, but here's what I have on my coach....It came with an in motion sat system, I added a moto-sat system for internet, and then I added a Wingard HD system for when I'm parked. So I actually have 3 sat sytems on board now. I subscribe to Direct TV for the house so I just added the coach as an add on to the account.

dish and direct
we have direct at home and no phone line required. Have dish in HM (pay as you go RV service) and of course no phone line. We we go on long trips 3 or more months, we call direct and suspend service at home so we don't pay. (can suspend Direct twice a year) have DNS for the dish so we can get the major networks from either NYC or LA. Recievers are updated via satellite on both.

I think the Dish/DirecTV older SD Tivo receivers had to have a phone line to update.
But if you didn't have a phone line to it. It would still work but keep asking for one.
