Dad had a 1958ish Volkswagen Van that he made into a camper. What fun that was. I guess he could have qualified as the original hippie.

1979 I had a Chevy Nomad
1990 Gmc Vandura.

Bring back the old days!!

1972 I bought a very used newspaper Chevy delivery window van. It had the biggest stack of springs in the back I had ever seen. It had an inline six with two speed automatic trans. We converted it into a camper van. Put up curtains all around. Added Styrofoam sheets for insulation. The two year old had a crib in the back. We slept on the floor. Had a Colman catalytic heater for heat and a camping sink that had water inside of it you pumped out as needed. Did all the cooking outside.

Took it all the way out to Yellowstone and the Tetons. Those were the good old days. Had an ice storm in the Tetons that covered the window vents one night. I could not light a lighter inside the van the CO was so high the next morning.

Started out a 66 chevy sportvan that was set up for camping. ( wish I still had it. ) then moved to a new 76 GMC full size, put a couple hundred thousand on it. Even belonged to a van club.

Not a van club but a mini truck club called Fleetwood of all things..., mini truck and van runs were a good time for sure
