Thanks from a veteran. Will spend part of the day in the local Veterans Day Parade with other old car veterans and then down to the VFW for refreshments

If you voted Tuesday, thank a veteran for safeguarding that right.

Words cannot adequately express the gratitude we have for the men and women that have served our country in uniform. God Bless you all.

Having taught American and world history for over 22 years, I can attest to the statement that "Freedom is not Free". For most of us that have not served in combat - - - our worst day as a civilian probably rarely compares to the average day faced by our soldiers in combat.

Thanx again for your service.

I try to express my gratefulness to every veteran/ active duty military person I see. A few years ago I saw a tall, proud-looking black man wearing a Korea Vet hat in the local WalMart. I approached him with extended hand, removed my hat, and thanked him for his service in Korea. His eyes welled-up, as he said, "you are the only white man to ever remove his hat for me". That meeting came back to me this week; I bury my last remaining Uncle tomorrow, a Korean-war Army veteran.
FWIW, this years stats say there are fewer than 1% of us who have served in the Military.
I wish there was some way to thank those who gave their life for us. I can't; so I consider it my duty, as well as an honor to them, to attend a Veterans day ceremony.
To all my brothers-in-arms, THANK YOU!

Ray, I thought your 1% figure sounded a little low, so I googled the numbers, and around 7% of the U.S. population are armed forces veterans, and about .75% of the population are in uniform at the present time. There is thread on the veterans forum that has a more complete breakdown of the numbers.

It is so nice when someone comes up to me and thanks me for my service.........every time it happens, I can't help to wonder, if it were not for the tens of thounsands who died for the freedom we enjoy today how different our world would be.
We have lost our respect for God and Country we need to get it back.

X2, I faithfully served 26 years on active duty and 22 years with Civil Service and for the most part loved every minute of it, the only time I didn't love it was when I had to be separated from my family pulling remote duty in Nam.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
