A salute to all who are serving and those of us who have served. Still have a son in law serving, one who is getting out on a medical, Took a bullet in Afghanistan. And my Grandson who is a medic with the Wa. National Guard.
And yes we enjoy freedom that many around the world can only dream of. Thank you All.

I salute all my fellow brothers, and thank you for your courage and dedication in joining me to fight and keep our country free. We are a special breed, and I pray that our youth will rise up and fill in our footsteps. It has come time for us to pass this responsibility to a new and younger youth, to continue for what we fought for. My question is.... Will they step up?

I'm not sure the younger youth care as much as we did when we were young.

Just to be realistic... not every veteran deserves to be praised, honored and/or thanked.
There have been, (and are), a lot of slackers and ne'er-do-wells in the military.
Painting them all with a broad brush is a disservice, (and insulting), to the good ones.

Another Jar Head, 2nd ANGLICO, escaped with honorable E4, mighty happy, no one shooting at me.

While I do agree with all of that, I think that just thanking anyone who served is appropriate. Even the slackers and ne'er-do-wells did serve even if they were drafted.
I especially do not like the practice of laboring all service members, police, fireman, ect. as heros. Most are not.
