Thank you for sharing. I have often wondered about some of the guys I was stationed with and whether or not they had survived.
Again, thanks for sharing with those of us who served during the thankless period!

Been thinking about that time lately...I was growing up in that era, doesn't seem like 50 years now. My dad served 3 tours I lived on base with my mother and siblings. Every once in awhile you would hear of a kid who was no longer at the school because his dad was KIA. 1969 I was 12 years old. I and most of my friends we were all aware of what our fathers did and what could happen but it seemed outside the realm of possibility to myself and probably the kids I hung out with. That year there was a group of about 6 of us that hung out at school and played ball and had dirt clod battles. When school left out for the summer, like most summers before I stayed at my grandparents in TN to give my mom a break. I came home in late August of 69 just a couple of days before school started again. I show up at school and this one kid Tommy who was one of my best friends in that group was no longer there. In late June his father was KIA and Tommy and his family were now back in Los Angeles. I knew his dad well, he had taken Tommy and me fishing several times and I had dinner numerous times at his house. That was when I realized the danger my own father was in. Dad came home in early December of '69 but I was mess for that 3 months prior. Never heard of Tommy again, I have searched his name over the years and never located him. Finally visited the wall in 1989 when my own father passed and was buried at Quantico. I saw Tommy's father's name and cried as hard for him as I had my dad the previous day.
