VISA gift cards

I received a Vanilla Visa gift card from a relative. I put it in a safe place but forgot about it. When I tried to use it it had expired. I called the company and was told that they would not replace. Be careful when you buy gift cards. It was only $25 but they took the money in good faith and should have honored it.

We've had Visa gift cards in the past. I was aware they would start charging a monthly fee after a certain time (I think 6 mos.), and I knew the monthly fee would eventually eat up the balance on the card; but I wasn't aware they would completely expire. That fact, plus the fact the cards have an initial fee just to get them started, are good reasons to avoid them.
