Your logic fails me.. You'd make a good civic leader.. You remind me of a city I used to live in... There was a teen-age night club that was built,, Rules for admission included no drugs or booze and were STRICTLY enforced.. Two adults who never set foot in the place went to a nearby bar (There is always a bar nearby) and got plastered.. Duked it out in the Teen Spot parking lot. So the city closed the joint. Alcohol violation.

The fighting drunkards were not customers of the establishment, NEVER HAD been and of course never will be.

But after that the teens had no where to go so naturally idle hands rip off hubcaps and stuff like that.

Yes there is a SERIOUS crime problem at Wal*Mart.. Where Store managers are well into the six figure income bracket.. Half the employees are on food stamps.

We have overnighted at Wal Marts for the past 5 yrs. Only once was I uncomfortable enough to move to a different rest stop. We pull in by 4 pm, walk the store or the entire shopping area, buy or cook dinner, and retire for the night. In the morning after a little shopping we resume our journey. We have stopped about 70 times and never have had a problem

There's been a lot of muggings and purse snatching at the Wal-Marts in our area, and I'm pretty sure it's that way everywhere. Not because of any fault of Wa-Mart, but the huge size of the parking lots makes it easy for the bad guys.

I will not let my wife go to Wal-Mart alone. I escort her [moderator edit] Better safe than sorry! JMHO

Well, I guess the wifey and I are part of the WM "cesspool", did not know we were considered a class of ignorant folks, though. Oh well, as Forrest Gump said, "You have to do the best with what God gave you."

Like Jay (Old Car Nut) said, it just depends on the neighborhood the WM is located in. Maybe you (Boostable) happen to shop near a cesspool. . .

X2 Bruce, you, I and I think Old Car Nut, are retired from professions where we put our lives on the line to protect those who needed help. I would certainly hope we are not considered "cesspool" or "ignorant", if so we did pretty good for ourselves and the public we protected. I was raised to believe nobody is better than the next guy, and to appreciate what God gave us. I'm not too proud that I won't shop in Walmarts, and It's my Grandsons favorite store as he always gets a "prize" when we go there.

Since I love a good discussion....
I have no problem going to Wal-Mart. They have good prices, and a lot of stuff that is difficult to find in one place.
The standing joke between me and the wife is " I am going to Wal-Mart, so I will lose a few IQ points by the time I get home".

[moderator edit]

It is absolutely not everyone at Wal-Mart....just a higher proportion of "Unique" people.
Then you also have to question their employment practices (low wages and health coverage)....but then again, that is how they keep their costs low.

Regards,

Dan

You must live near Jackson or Hattiesburg? Walmart is just like any other major retailer, some good locations and some not so good. No one makes me shop there, or anywhere for that matter. If the have something I need at the best price I go get it. If a local merchant is competitive I use them, especially if the service is higher. No one HAS to work for Walmart. The "they don't treat workers fair" is bunk. My first job was washing windsheils, pumping gas and checking oil. If you don't like working there find another job you like better!

Seems that they're homeless & very defensive of what's their's.
So according to your logic, if a couple sales their home & buys a $1M Prevost motorhome they are homeless?

Thanks, Mike. We live in a small mountain town, and are fortunate to have a very small WM. We support our locally owned hardware store, several small "healthy" food stores, a ranch supply store, and a small grocery store. If we cannot find it at these locally owned stores, then WM is our only other option, unless we travel 2 1/2 hours to Pueblo or Colorado Springs. And when we do go there, well you know we are gonna visit Costco or Sam's. . . I will have to check for cesspools there on our next trip! Colorado is an open-carry state, and our WM does not infringe on that right. There are so many folks here with handguns on their hips, if a robbery ever does happen, it will be a big gunfight like in the old west. Maybe that deters the bad guys, not really sure. That is for another thread.

And like you, and others on this site, I was taught to abide by the golden rule, too. Yes, it is hard sometimes. So is life.

BTW, I cannot wait to be a gramps! So many warm chocolate bars just waiting to be sent home with the grandkids. We have a really cool toy store in downtown Salida just waiting for them.

Bruce

I would highly doubt this was your average MH'ing family that just stopped for the night at Walmart.
Exactly!

They were NOT in a motor-home and in fact were living out of a car. Plus they had set up "home" in the parking lot versus stopping for one night.

I do not frequent Walmart's but will use one if it's time to pull over and there happens to be one close or within eyesight.

These folks will be getting a better home with bars and a concrete bed. Hopefully they get put away for life without parole. Scum like those people need to be removed from society permanently.

I just finished reading this thread. My response is simply this. I don't remember the exact bible verse or quote but it was said by Jesus and went something like this: "The poor will always be with us and we will be measured by how we treated them."
The poor are everywhere and that includes WM.

I'll venture to guess that very few of us here make so much $$$$$ that we never shop for the best price but always just pay the price. Most of us will shop for the best price and that will more often than not include a WM.

When seldom overnight at WM's now that we are retired. We like to stay at a nice CG and rest between drives. Not because we are old but we just like to take our time. We rushed for to many years.

Absolutely. Makes one wonder when there are threads about buying new motorhomes and paying too much for depreciation and threads question folks who patronize WalMart.

Some pay too much, others should look for stores to pay more! I am confused - what should I do?

One bit of advice I can give you.. Most muggers and the like are lazy cowards (Key word is most) if you LOOK like a victim they will gladly make you one (met one just yesterday....She looked the part..They made her into it).

If you look like you are not going to be easy prey..they will hunt elsewhere.

DO NOT LOOK LIKE A VICTIM SEARCHING FOR A CRIME SCENE.

I have seen people's attitude change when I turned around and faced them (6' PLUS and at that time around 230 pounds holding a hammer lightly in my hand....it was form fit to my fingers and looked like it lived there,,,which it did" man went from verbal assault over an imagined insult to apologetic when he figured out he was out matched. Had I been smaller.. He would have likely attacked... Or tried to in any case.
