Walmart 17% Price Jump
So I walk into my local Walmart and head straight to the Bakery to get my mostest favorate cinnamin rolls with cream cheese frosting. They had four containers with 4 rolls in each. 2 of them are priced at $2.98 and the other two are priced at $3.48. Thinking this is a mistake I take them to one of the Bakery workers to point out the price mistake. Not only do they tell me the $3.48 is the new price, but they take the one that was marked at $2.98 from me. I tried to explain to them that the recent CPI was 1.7% not 17%, but they didn't listen. I hurry back to the shelf and grab the one still marked at $2.98 and leave the area. When I go to check out the thing rings in at the $3.48 price, being the nice guy I am I show the cashier the printed price on the rolls is $2.98, she makes the adjustment and I walk out with my LAST CREAM CHEESE FROSTED ROLLS FROM WALMART. Guess I'll be googling a recipie for them.

Hey Joe.....Who did you think would pay for Obama Care. Some companies are starting a surcharge to pay the extra costs of our new reality.
And don't forget Social Security is now a government benefit, not what my employers and I paid into.

I'm not sure what you thought Social Security was, but it's been a government benefit program since it began in the 1930's under FDR. Workers and employers pay money into the trust fund to cover the retirement costs of other workers. It's not your "own" money that pays for your retirement, but it's been like that for many, many years.
IMHO this entire thread is a bit alarmist. The price increase on one item at Walmart doesn't signify anything about the overall inflation rate. Yes, it does appear to be a rather large increase, but it might simply mean that Walmart changed suppliers for that item. Or it could mean that sales were so good at the lower price that they figured they could charge more for it.
There are lots of possible things that can affect the price of one particular item, but they really have nothing to do with the general inflation rate.
To quote from the NY Times about the current inflation rate: "the rate of inflation in recent months is lower than the 2 percent annual rate that the Fed considers healthiest." I'm not going to try to play economist, but there has to be at least a small inflation rate to keep the economy stable. If prices actually were to start falling people would defer purchases because "tomorrow the price of everything will be cheaper." That is called deflation and can result in a rapidly failing economy.

Sam Walton is one of the hated 2%, staring down the barrel of Obama's 'rich guy surcharge'. He's gonna pass that cost increase right along to his customers in the form of way-too-expensive cinnamon rolls and [gasp] rotisserie chickens. In the end, who's pocket does the tax hike on the richest 2% come out of? Mine and yours. Get used to it, it's the new reality.

I'm afraid we haven't seen anything yet. This is the beginning of the end. If you have a strong stomach thee is a book called " They Thought They Were Free" by Milton. It is an exact road map of what is, and what is going to happen.
It is almost an exact duplicate of what is going on. Scary reading.

IMHO, America is dead! The younger, and youngest generations will never know what a free society (for want of a better term) is, or what individual freedom even means. I'm old so it won't affect me too much really, but the people have spoken for benefits over anything else, it's theirs, enjoy.

Good grief. I wondered how long a thread about the price of cinnamon rolls would morph into a comment on Affordable Health Care
Maybe Obamacare is also responsible for the drop in fuel prices lately ?
WalMart is a predatory retailer who's only interest is wringing the last cent out of it's vendors and customers. They hire part time workers to avoid paying them benefits and their employees become eligible for food stamps and publicly funded health care. Guess who pays for that?
But glad you enjoyed your last cinnamon roles. That, after all, is what is really important in life

It didn't take long for this thread to go political and stay there.
iRV2's rules do not permit political discussions.
