Weird laws

I would love to know the history behind some of these laws and what the law makers were thinking...or perhaps not thinking.

Weird laws

And another thought for the day....

Discussion forums are like a box of chocolates. You never know when you're gonna get one full of nuts!

You must honk the horn whenever you pass another car, according to the state’s driver’s education manual
Yeah, what ever happened to that? I remember my dad doing that all the time on those 2-lane country roads. It was a friendly little toot-toot & you waived as you passed - not the blaring honk ya get now that means "get the heck out of my way you old slowpoke!".

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

I'm afraid, Ken, that the box of nuts isn't limited to the forums.

I suspect that some of the laws were very well meaning but, as so often seems to happens not very well thought through. Unintended consequences seem to have more impact that the reasons behind the actions.

I was listening to a segment on why we are still paying a subsidy to Angora sheep farmers that was started back in WWI to make sure that we got enough wool for military uniforms. It made perfect sense at the time but didn't have an expiration date or circumstances. So it costs us $1M a year yet today. Anyone out there wearing wool military uniforms??

Not too long ago, I saw another list of weird laws that were just from Texas. Boy, we have some doozies. I just wish that I'd saved that link.

Here in Indiana, I forget the town name though; they have a law(or used to) on the books that says if you drive an automobile into town someone must walk in front to warn horse-drawn wagons and riders.

Hahaha I've heard some weird rules, but some of these are just crazy. You can't eat an orange in the bathtub in California??

On a recumbent bike forum, it was reported at a small town of Blackhawk, i believe Oregon has recently passed a law prohibiting riding bicycles on the city streets. I guess the kids there will never learn to ride a bike.
