Well This Should Be Fun

We are kind of taking care of our 14 YO grandson for awhile. Right now we are in a fairground RV lot, just arriving this evening. There is one other rig here.

After he was finished unhooking the toad he asked me if after he got home from school could he drive the car around the lot. I said yes. Hope it turns out better than the last time.

About a year ago I had been letting him pull the toad up to the drawbar and get it lined up.

The last time I parked the car about 20-25 feet away and told him to slowly drive up. He did fine till the last few inches and I told him to stop but he hit the go pedal. He felt bad but he also knew that I took responsibility for having him do it.

Only about a $75 piece of plastic and bent the Ready Brake mounting. Few minuets of work.

He's got 40 acres here.

Ive started all my grandkids in a polaris ranger. Gives them the basics on controls and allows them to develop some skills and driving coordination before getting in a car or truck. My oldest is driving now and she drove me from Colfax Ca to Truckee over Donner Summit and back while I was having some work done on my truck.

I was absolutely amazed at how proficient and poised she is behind the wheel. Not too fast, not too slow, not timod, not aggressive, good lane keeping, good following distance, good anticipation of other drivers actions, smooth transitions, the works! Far better than I could ever have expected and I think better than any teenage driver Ive ever seen. My aunt trained me on and off road in a Jeep wagoner starting at about age 12 - on 40 acres!

She got in an accident last week when someone ran a stop. She t-boned the car but did such a good job of controlling her car and had such good reactions that she must have finally impacted at less than 5 mph and she was doing 35 - the speed limit.

Good to start them out younger rather than wait for the system to put them behind the wheel at 15 1/2 with a permit and expect them to have it down by the time they are 16.
