I think it is similar to most things in life...............

The older generation wants to do it right.
The younger generation wants to do it fast.

Remember when we were the younger generation, we didn't have the
electronics, but we wanted faster cars, music, et cetera.
The more things change, the more they stay the same...........

Most abbreviations are understandable, but one long sentence that lacks
punctuation is usually hard to decipher.

I have a 14 year old daughter so I understand the "lingo".

I'm not saying I agree with it, just not at my wits end about it.
Can your 14 YO get job and earn enough money to buy an RV communicating and talking like that.

I don't know about buying an RV. But I DO know that she made Principal's list and the Honor Roll so at this point, I'm not going to worry about it.

That is a poor excuse. I can't type with more than two fingers (and I still make mistakes), even after taking typing in school (I got up to 19 mistakes per minute) due to my ADD, yet I still mange to make reasonably well typed posts.

So, there is a precedent for writing awkwardly. Now we are all dealing with the correct form of our language in electronic data.
Missile or missive?

Now, the person who takes offense to abbrevaited posts has a name called "NLOVNIT". LMAO

She/he wants to suggest abbreviated posts are unnacceptable yet her/his own name is abbreviated; "NLOVNIT"

Come on you hypocrites!!! Stop the BS and quit yer whining. I understand every bit of the post's point. If you don't then don't respond - period!!

And stop using names that are abbreviated!! Sheesh... My name is simple, "J" "PRIEST". First inital, last name. But the folks who want to criticize and suggest that the world is coming to an end use abbreviated - dare I say - un-understandable names for yourselves.

That is so wrong on so many levels!!!!!

Think about folks. Think about the mixed signals and hypocritical attitude.

Oh, I abbreviate my own name but call folks who use perfectly acceptable abbreviated text WRONG!!

You folks need to grow up and stop growing old.

Love,

Jeff
Did it ever occur to that Lori's full name may not have fit in the amount of space allowed by the forum software? My full user name should be Lady Fitzgerald but I had to abbreviate it because it wouldn't fit.

There is also the possibility that NLOVNIT is her last name. Not all names have English origins (and even those often have non-English origins if one digs back far enough).

Also, using one's real name online, as you have, can expose one to the danger of identity theft.

That brings up a valid point. Several of the forums I haunt have an international readership and I do assume that English could be a second language for posters that use poor English or use a version of English different from what use here in the U.S. (assuming we still speak
English).

Texting shortcuts are another story.

I worked in a convenience store for a few years to fill the gap between retirement and Social Security after I retired from the job that provides my pension and medical insurance. I saw many of the job applications that came from high school graduates and couldn't believe how poor the spelling, grammar, and punctuation was on most of them. Guess which applications went to the bottom of the stack?

The value of a forum such as this is the free exchange of ideas and community support. If a poster can articulate an idea here without the need for me to use a secret decoder ring to understand, I don't care if you use common abbrieviations, acronyms, and internet jargon.

Some folks are using mobile devices to post here. They are a pain to type on for me. I'd want to save every keystroke possible were I relegated to the tiny screen. Some folks might even have to press '555666555' to type 'LOL', lol.

NLOVNIT. For some that may not have figured it out and are personalized licenses plate challenged, I'm going to take a stab at:

"Now Lovin' It".
