Today was a work day on the coach. Brought the coach home from the storage lot and discovered the tree in front was hitting the coach. So, up on the roof with the chain saw to cut off some branches.
Next thing was to run a power cord to the electric center and plug it in and set the power center to 20 amps. Had a front end alignment done last month and the house batteries were left on and were quite low. Was a bulk charge of 130 amps so you know how low they were!
Of course I discovered the roof is dirty and I’m leaving footsteps all over it. I didn’t plan to wash the roof, but, since I was there and today is a work day it got washed. There went an hour plus for those two jobs.
Now it’s time to get to the job I really brought it home for. I have a 2005 with a Cat C7 and rear radiator so you know what that means. First thing is pull up the floor in the closet and remove the engine cover. Motor was still quite warm so I took one hour break (water, gator aid and more water). Oh, did I fail to mention I’m in Florida and its upper 80’s with a relative humidity of 90%+.
All right back to work. First thing is to cut an access hole in the fan shroud and then build the new cover plate. Just in case I had to stop and move the coach before completing the work. The first photo shows the top section of the radiator and how much build-up it had. The second is a shot straight down, you can see a little of the crud in the inter-cooler, but what got my attention is the standing water in the lower section of the shroud. I did drill a small drain hole after I was done cleaning but its not at the low spot in the shroud. Below the shroud at the low spot is what looks like a radiator sub assembly so I could not drill from the bottom and didn't want to take a chance and drill a hole into it.
Well after another two plus hours with Purple Power 100%, two hoses, one inside one outside a garden sprayer I finally finished. I dropped a light down inside between the engine and the radiator and inter-cooler in several places and could see light through.
I also had a friend spray water through the radiator and watched it come through the inter-cooler from top to bottom and right to left. I believe (HOPE) I really did get it clean. Installed the new shroud cover plate (used the piece I cut out bolted to the cover plate so it fits the opening it made) installed the engine cover and the floor. Job complete!
Checked the invertor/charger and it showed a 10 amp float charge, so they were pretty well back up. Returned the coach to the storage lot and called it a day.
Tomorrow is another day of work. After washing the roof I now have white streaks down the side, Wash Day!
Why am I doing all this work? I’m heading to Wing Ding 35 in Greenville S.C. then two weeks later up to Winnebago GNR. After that who knows, the federal government said I was too old to continue my job after I turned 65 this past March!
