What happened to I-50 and I-60?
While planning the next leg of my journey on a USA map, I noticed major east-west Interstate highways numbered 10, 20, 30, 40, 70, 80 & 90. What happened to 50 & 60?

According to Widipedia: "There is no Interstate 50 or Interstate 60, as routes with those numbers would likely pass through states which currently have U.S. Highways with the same numbers, which is not allowed under highway administration guidelines."

US 50 is a major east-west highway in central Missouri, and US 60 is a major east-west highway in SW Missouri.

Hwy 50 in Sacrademento runs into Carson City NV, and I think to points east of there. I believe it ends in Ocean City Maryland. if I'm not wrong. But i am also not always right either

In MO. I70 follows the old hwy 40 and hwy50&60 are south of there. Both hwy 50&60 run the entire width of the state and there are sections of old hwy40 that are still there.

Hi, Barb
Probably not- the Interstate Highway System was conceived and executed as a method to
move "men-and-materials" in case of war!
Transportation of people and goods is secondary, and a use subject to Federal Closure nationwide in the event that the military needs the roads.
This was President Dwight Eisenhower's Pet Project (and main legacy!), inspired by his admiration for the Germans' wartime efficiency in that department.
The existing Federally controlled "limited access" system is sufficient for that purpose- though given the realities of modern warfare, it's unlikely the need will arise.

Kerry, I-30 starts in Texas and ends in Arkansas, probably the shortest east-west interstate around, lol....
East of Arkansas, the proximity of Interstates 20 and 40 are relatively so close that there would have to be a MAJOR need/demand to build such an interstate, passing thru some serious mountains.

I-12 in Louisiana and I-4 in Florida are shorter.
