For those of us that served during 'Nam, isn't it a welcome change to see how the military are received in airports and by civilians. It's a far cry from our "welcome" home so many years ago.

What really saddens me are the veterans who served in WWI and WWII, such as my Dad. Too imagine what sacrifices these individuals made for our country. There are days when it's really tough for me!

Here is proof in the pudding (my dog tags) and the plastic cover you were supposed to put them in so that you were not heard. Tag #56545237

Here a couple of items shown below, believe or not, that I have received within the past couple of years, all very meaningful to me.

When your orders show that you are being sent to Vietnamese language school you have little doubt of what future had in store for you. Opportunity!

Never had a serial number, by the time I came in we used SSNs. U.S. Army 22 years, 1974 - 1996. My partner was active for 5 and finished up the other 15 in the reserves.

Glad I started this off with our AF # , 62-66 San Antonio 13 month Crypto School, Korea then Denver. They asked me to reup. Nope don't what to be a WO and fly chopper.

Like others, I am glad to see the way we welcome the service of our vets now. when I got out it was a disgrace to have been in the military. NO ONE liked us much. I still shed tears when I think of all those that went on before us.
All for the sake of FREEDOM.

Served from 1980-1986 in Submarine Service 😜 Had no clue what I was getting into. Got too do a bunch of crazy ****, glad I got out alive 😜 Not many get too see the North Pole or pop up in the middle of the Indian Ocean to go swimming, smoke a cigar, and have some BBQ burgers/dogs/steaks and lobster tails! 😜

U.S. Navy 1963 to 1967. ETN2

I've asked several panhandlers with Vietnam Vet signs what their serial number was.

Several didn't know what I was talking about. Asked them where they went to boot camp...they weren't sure.

Pretty hard to forget your serial number.......I'll probably still know mine when I go completely senile.
